Procedures for Concurrent Enrollment (.pdf)

Eligibility of Students

To be eligible for concurrent enrollment, students must:

  1. Limit enrollment to advanced scholastic or technical courses. Enrollment in Physical Education or basic skills courses (e.g. ENGL 101A, 101B, 102, or any 100 courses; MATH 105/105L, ESL courses) will not be allowed.
  2. Be pre-approved by the school principal and counselor to pursue specific courses. (Pursuant to CA Ed Code sections 48800, 48800.5, and 488802)
  3. Have written parental approval.

Procedures

PLAN AHEAD. Students should begin the process for concurrent enrollment early. To enroll concurrently at Chabot College, follow these procedures:

  1. Complete Chabot College Concurrent Enrollment Application for Admission.
  2. Complete Recommendation for Concurrent Enrollment Program form.
    * Obtain approval and signatures from both school counselor and principal or designee.
    * Enrollment in Physical Education or basic skills courses (e.g. ENGL 101A, 101B, 102; MATH 105/105L, ESL courses) are not permissible.
    NOTE: Students in the 3rd to 8th grades and their parent(s) will be notified to attend a mandatory orientation with the Vice-President of Student Services at the beginning of the term.
  3. Submit a copy of current school transcript (for students in the 9th to 12th grades). Home school students should also submit a copy of their R4 affidavit (CA Ed Code, section 33190).
  4. Complete Release of Personal Information/Emergency form.
  5. Complete English and/or Math assessment. This step is required for students taking English and/or Math courses. Assessment must be completed prior to registration for certain courses with English or Math prerequisite. Please check class schedule for course requirement.
  6. Submit all completed forms in-person or mail  to the Office of Admissions & Records, ATTN: Concurrent Enrollment Program, 25555 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward, CA 94545. Applications may be submitted until a week before the last day to add (see academic calendar for date).
  7. Register for APPROVED classes. Starting Spring 2009, students can now register online via CLASS Web. Students are notified by the Admissions & records Office when Recommendation (s) are approved. Registration is restricted to 6 units or 2 classes recommended by school official (s) and approved by the Director of Admissions & Records. Students will automatically be dropped from courses not approved by Chabot College and their school.

Additional Information

  • Students who plan to continue enrollment in the Concurrent Enrollment Program must complete the Recommendation form for each term of attendance. Enrollment is limited to courses recommended by the school counselor and principal.
  • Concurrent enrollment students earn college credit for all courses completed at Chabot. These credits may also be used for high school graduation requirements. Please consult high school counselor for more information.
  • Non-residents and Home School students should contact their local school district for information prior to applying for the Concurrent Enrollment program.
  • NOTE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT POLICY: Concurrently enrolled students sixteen years or older who have achieved at least junior standing (or the demonstrated equivalent) in high school may enroll in transfer/associate degree level English classes if they score for English 1A on the English Placement Test and meet other enrollment criteria stated in the college's concurrent enrollment policy.  Concurrently enrolled students under sixteen who have not achieved junior standing (or the demonstrated equivalent) in high school may not enroll in English classes at Chabot College.  No concurrently enrolled students may enroll in English classes below the transfer/associate degree level (i.e., English 100 level classes).

Fees

Enrollment fees are waived for students in the concurrent enrollment program. A $3.00 optional mailing fee is assessed to all concurrent enrollment students in order to provide grade reports at the end of the term. The $9.00 Health Service Fee for the summer session and $14.00 Health Services Fee for the Spring and Fall semesters are mandatory. 

PLEASE NOTE: International and out-of-state students will be assessed both tuition and enrollment fees.
