A Program to Encourage:

Philosophy

The Chabot College Children's Center serves Southern Alameda County providing quality care for the children of students, faculty and staff and provides training to students of Early Childhood Development (ECD). We provide a safe environment that meets the developmental needs of children from infancy to preschool, which nurtures their curiosity and love of learning. The Center reflects sensitivity to issues of diversity, both ethnic and developmental.

Goals

Curriculum

Emergent curriculum is being implemented in all classes. It reflects the interests and capabilities of the children and allows for maximum independence and participation on the part of the child. Projects and activities are geared to the enjoyment of the process. Our main goal is for the child to have an enjoyable experience.

The Children's Center operates during the College academic year. The Center will be closed on all non-instructional days and will be open during Summer session.

Day Program

Monday - Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Funded Programs

We have state and federally funded programs for families who qualify with full and part time care. To receive subsidized childcare and developmental services, families must meet eligibility and need requirements.

Evening Program

Monday - Thursday, 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM

State Funded Programs

Funding is available for families who qualify for CalWORKs, State PreSchool and Head Start. If you do not qualify for either program, the tuition amount of $5.00 is charged per hour as scheduled.

Staff

The staff is highly qualified both in terms of academic training and experience. All staff meet or exceed licensing requirements and requirement for the Child Development Permit Matrix adopted by the state of California. The staff is encouraged to continue their education by attending classes, workshops and conferences in Early Childhood Education.

The Center has a Director, an Assistant Director, and an Evening Director, who are in charge of the daily operations of the Center.

ECD Students

The Children's Center is also a lab school, therefore we have the opportunity to have ECD students in all of our classrooms. The students have assigned tasks within the classroom setting; they interact with children and help the teachers with all aspects of the program. The students are considered part of the staff and work as a team in the individual classes.

Parent Involvement

Parents are encouraged to participate in the daily activities of their child's classroom. Parent involvement will support their child's development and parent/teacher communication. Parents are required to meet with their teacher at least once per semester. Every semester we have an orientation for new and returning parents that include topics such as philosophy, program goals, objectives, eligibility criteria, fee requirements, and program activities.

We encourage suggestions from our parents and work with them in a collaborative manner.

Advisory Board

The Center has an Advisory Board made up of parents who volunteer their time and support the ongoing activities at the Center. The board reviews issues and makes recommendations to the Director. The Directors communicate parent concerns to the Center staff and the College.
