Dental Hygiene

Program Eligibility

(All course numbers cited below are for Chabot College courses)

A. Science Prerequisites:

Applicants must have completed the following prerequisite courses at the time of application, (the end of January). One (1) of the prerequisite science courses below may be in progress at the time of application; it must be completed by June 30 of the year of application. Minimum grades of "C" must be earned in the science prerequisite classes listed below:

Anatomy 1 (General Human Anatomy) 4 semester units or 5 quarter units
Chemistry 30A (Introductory and Applied Chemistry) 4 semester units or 5 quarter units
Chemistry 30B (Introductory and Applied Chemistry) 4 semester units or 5 quarter units
Microbiology 1 (Microbiology) 4-5 semester units or 5-6 quarter units
Physiology 1 (Human Physiology) 4-5 semester units or 5-6 quarter units

B. General Education Prerequisites:

Applicants must have completed the following prerequisite courses no later than June 30 of the year of application. Minimum grades of “C” must be earned in the prerequisite classes listed below:

Speech 1 (Fundamentals of Speech Communication) or
Speech 30 (Elements of Speech)
3 units
Sociology 1 (Principles of Sociology) 3 units
Psychology 1 (General Psychology) 3 units
English 1A (Critical Reading and Composition)
(strongly recommended, but not a prerequisite)
3 units

C. Grade Point Average:

The minimum required grade point average for placement into Dental Hygiene is 2.5. Grade point average is calculated from all college courses the student has taken at all colleges attended.

D. Residency in the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District:

It is not necessary to be a resident of the college's district in order to be placed into the Dental Hygiene program. However, 5 additional points are awarded to students who are district residents.
