In order for learning to take place in our classrooms and for goals to be accomplished, we need to
acknowledge the fact that many of our students face personal and health issues
that obstruct their learning. Emotional distress is not a weakness, hiding it
is.
The information provided below offers concrete suggestions for helping
emotionally distressed students connect with available college and community
resources. When you experience student behavior that causes you concern for
their well-being, I encourage you to use the suggestions on this website and
refer the student to the Student Health Center Mental Health Counselor for
psychological and Mental Health Counseling.
