My Chabot experience paved the way for a good life – both
professionally and personally!
When I came to the US,
I had set up a clear goal to earn a business degree from a top
university. My friends had told me that it takes more than academic top
performance when you’re competing with hundreds of students with the
same intention; it takes club and/or athletic involvement and a school
with a well known name and reputation. After comparing different junior
colleges, Chabot College came out on top as they met my academic
requirements. But just as important, I felt welcome when I visited their
international office.
At an early stage at Chabot, I met several international students
representing all continents and together we decided to start an
International Club. The collected knowledge and experience in this club
definitely helped me and many of my friends to be admitted to our
universities of choice. Later on, this network has opened up for many
business opportunities, not to mention long lasting friendships. With
hard work and guidance from savvy faculty members I ended up being
accepted to the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. But without my
Chabot experience as a stepping stone, I doubt that I would have made
it. Likewise, I doubt that I would have reached the professional level I
am at now had I not received a degree from an American college. The best
way to describe my experience is to quote the singer Brian Adams; “those
were the best days of my life…”

"Study at Chabot College have given me opportunities for development of
myself as a person who thinks and acts, but not only for learning
English or class subjects. Through classes and tutoring experience, I
have improved my attitude to challenge for accomplishment and to
cooperate with others towards the same goal. You can learn English
everywhere, however studying at Chabot College can be more than that."
On the way to Hayward from San Francisco International Airport, I could
not stop myself from believing that I finally stepped into the United
State to study English and pursue my further studies in Chemical
Engineering. This was my first time in the United States and everything
seemed so fresh to me. I was very excited! I learned from Chabot College
Web- site that Chabot College has a very good English and Academic
program for international students; and because of this recommendation I
decided to attend it. I had a great experience being a Chabot College
Student. The professors are well known among the business industry. They
have a good curriculum that provide you training and experience for real
world professional careers. Such training helped me obtained an
internship at world class companies, such as Chevron, Lam research etc…

Chabot has truly been a big part of who I am now, a much independent
person and the outcome has identified me exceptionally from such a
diverse pool of nationalities in Chabot and in San Francisco. As a
person I am influenced significantly by my parents, but my schools
primarily Chabot have exemplified the uniqueness illustrated by its
kindred spirit that I too posses now. My personality has changed as
someone who now perceives goodness and gains in everything however
negative, and all this highlights or underlines my core values and
principles as an individual and as a student. Thank you so much for
everything you have done for me, my experiences as Chabot will remain
with me forever.

The last two and a-half year in Chabot was a great experience for me. In
the beginning, we all are somehow confused of what to do, where to go
and who to ask. So, I suggest you guys to come to the International
Student Orientation; you will definitely figure out what to do and where
to get things done. About who to ask, of course it’s Ms. Dolly
Balangitao, our International Coordinator; she’s very helpful and always
there to help her students. If you feel bad that you’re bothering her so
many times, then DON’T, because I didn’t. When it comes to legal issues,
things should be done as soon as possible. Also you should come to see
an international student counselor, as early as you can, to have your
Educational Plan done; also make sure you understand the EP clearly
since you definitely don’t want to waste your time taking classes that
are not required for your transferring. I did waste a semester of mine
taking classes that I don’t need, that was a lot of money too. It all
sounds confusing and so many things to do but they do all comes in
order, just get one thing done and then go for the next thing; the key
is to ASK, most of Chabot staffs are very friendly and helpful. After
one semester, you will definitely get used to “Chabot”. Last advise, the
best tool to help you go through college is FRIENDS; make some friends,
hangout, do homework together and stop being stressed out, you will do
just fine at Chabot. Welcome and Good Luck. GO GLADIATOR!!!
