International Students
Interested in ESL program?
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Chabot College is not as
intensive as a program at a Language School. Please note that
Chabot College CAN NOT issue an I-20 form to students with a major of "English as a Second Language
Program". ESL courses at Chabot College are at intermediate and advanced
levels only and are available to International Students in addition to
their academic program.
Note:
If you are a permanent
resident, a U.S. citizen, or if you are currently in the United States in
another visa category such as J, H or other, you
should follow the instruction on the ESL
program
website @
http://www.chabotcollege.edu/LanguageArts/ESL/register.asp.
You should not
apply through the International Student Office.
Interested in a private Language School?
Chabot College does not offer beginning or survival ESL courses. International students can obtain English competency by enrolling in ESL courses
at the ELS Language Centers program located in Berkeley or in downtown San
Francisco. We will accept completion of their Level 109 course in lieu of TOEFL.
Students may begin ESL studies with the ELS Language Centers then transfer directly
to Chabot College to begin academic studies. To read more information about
the ELS Language Centers go to
http://els.edu/contents/index.aspx.
Be sure to tell them you plan to transfer to
Chabot College after.
Conditional Admission
To obtain a conditional letter of acceptance from Chabot College without
TOEFL, students need to apply to Chabot College.
If Chabot has all required documents except TOEFL, we will write a conditional
letter of acceptance stating we will accept and issue a transfer I-20 as soon as
the student has met the TOEFL equivalent through the ELS Language Centers or
other ESL
programs.
