Chabot and Las Positas College students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to use the Library and to borrow its circulating items upon presentation of their College ID card with the current registration sticker on the back. Please inform staff members if you have a change of address.

Members of the community are welcome to use the resources in the Library. If it is necessary to borrow an item, arrangements may be made by contacting the Public Services and Audio-Visual Librarian, Debbie Soares ((510) 723-6768 or dsoares@chabotcollege.edu)

A limit of 10 items may be checked out of the Library.

Circulating Books - 2 week checkout

• Books may be renewed twice unless someone has placed a "HOLD" on the item.
• Books may be be renewed in person, over the telephone (723-7513), or via the library's catalog web page. *Note Unless an instructor places a textbook on Reserve your class textbook will probably not be available in the Library.
• You may place a hold on library items in person, by phone (723-7513) or via the library's catalog web page.

• Library Reserve Items may be used for 1-hour, unless specified for a longer time period by the instructor. A college ID card to check out Reserve items may need to be left at the Circulation Desk. Reserve items include college catalogs, class schedules, dictionaries, etc.
• Instructor Reserve Items may be used for 1-hour, unless specified for a longer time period by the instructor. A college ID must be used to check out Library Reserve items at the Circulation Desk.
• AV Reserves - Use your College ID card to view/hear AV items at the AV desk on the Mezzanine. 

Magazines

• Nearly all magazines may be checked out for one week, up to 6 at a time, although we ask that you take only 3 of any one title.
• A few magazines may NOT be checked out of the library. These Reserve magazines may be used in the Library for 1-hour at a time by leaving your college ID card at the Checkout Desk.

• Reference books may be used ONLY in the library. Photocopy machines are available.

• The Audio-Visual Center on the mezzanine has videos, DVDs, CDs, audiocassettes, maps, posters and other.  Most of these materials may be checked out for home use.  VCR's and DVD, audiocassette and record players are available in the Audio Visual Center to use materials you can only use in the Library.

• General Collection - $.25 per day, per item, beginning on the due date. The total fines for all items will not exceed $10.00
• Magazines - $.25 per day, per item, up to the price of the magazine.
• Pamphlets - $.25 per day with a maximum fine of $1.50.
• Reserve Books - $1.00 per day for 24 hours, 3 days, and 7 days checkout.  .25 for 1 hour and 2 hours checkout.
• Audio-Visual Materials
  1) DVDs - $1.00 per day
  2) Videotapes - $1.00 per day
  3) All other audio-visual material - $.25 per day

Fines -- Fines over $5.00 result in a "block" being placed on a student's records in Admissions and Records.

Patron must pay the entire cost, plus a $5.00 processing fee for each lost book. Upon payment the patron will be issued a receipt. If the item is found within ONE YEAR the patron will receive a refund for the amount of the item, minus the $5.00 processing fee.

Chabot College Library and Las Positas College Library share one online catalog database. Items are easily requested and tranferred between the two libraries. If you need to request a book from the Las Positas Library, ask at the Checkout Desk. Book shipments arrive every Tuesday and Thursday between 3:00-4:00pm.

Copiers accept both cash and GoPrint cards for copying.  Copies are ten cents per page.  If you need to get change for $20 or less, come to the Check Out desk.
