Face it. The World Wide Web can contain good resources for library research, but trying to find them is a chore! There is just too much junk and misinformation or web pages that have information without having their facts verified. Take caution and evaluate each web site you come across carefully. To get a good idea why this is important, take a look at: www.martinlutherking.org This web site used to be picked up by most search engines, and usually appeared towards the top of the list of results. The sponsoring organization does not appear on the site previously mentioned, but it is: www.stormfront.org
Reference Resources
Some reference resources are also available on the web. We are currently developing an Online Reference Shelf that will soon be added to the Library web page. Below are what’s been developed, as well as other online reference resources available:

Librarians’ Index to the Internet www.lii.org

Below are three examples of search engines you will find on the right side of the Web Guides and Search Engines page.
Encyclopedia Britannica http://search.eb.com/
(Select "Britannica’s Internet Guide" from the options

Select Search Engines or Directories that will More Likely Lead you to Academic Web Sites Start with the right side of the Web Guides and Search Engines page first, to search directories that select quality sites. You will often have to search using broad subject terms. Use the search engines or directories listed on the left side to find pages devoted to specific topics, but keep in mind that on the left side, there is little or no "quality control" for what you will get.
