Resources At the Library: William James' The Varieties of the Religious Experience

The databases you would most likely use are:

1. At Author Search, enter William James and surround it in quotation marks as the example below shows:

 

  1. From your results, then select the folder tab for particular type of resources. In Biographies, you will not only find information about the author, but some of the biographies also include extensive overviews on the author's major works. Literary Criticism, Articles, and Work Overviews will provide interpretations, criticisms and general overviews of William James' works as well. Bibliographies will lead you to both writings by William James as well as writings about William James. Finally, Additional Resources will lead you to selected web sites on William James. The category you are looking it is the one with the folder tab in white.

  3. When selecting a category, you will sometimes have choices of subcategories. For example, in "Literary Criticism, Articles, & Work Overviews," you have listed below further selections in green boxes. Select the green box for your desired selection:

  5. Once you make your selections, select the options listed below. The results will lead you to information in full text.

  7. When viewing the secondary resource, itself in Literature Resource Center, you can E-Mail or Print by clicking on the options stated on the top left of the screen:

 

 

 

Project MUSE

Project MUSE is a database that leads to full text content. While the database can also be searched off campus, full text articles are only available through the database from computers on campus. Like in Literature Resource Center, phrase searching is supported by stating your phrase within quotation marks. When combining terms, be sure to place the connector, AND, in between your terms (such as "William James" AND "varieties of religious experience." Below is such a sample search:

An E-Mail option is currently not available in Project MUSE, but you can print and save Project MUSE articles. To print an article that is in HTML format, print from the browser. If the article is in PDF format, you need to click on the printer icon you will find from the Adobe Acrobat top bar.
