Chabot sports roundup, Nov. 1 edition

Chabot freshman defensive lineman Aaron Andrews, a Granada High graduate, had three sacks and 3.5 tackles for a loss times in the Gladiators' defeat to host Modesto on Saturday in a Valley Conference showdown.
Andrews, who moved into the state lead in sacks with 13, was a bright spot on a tough night for the Gladiators(3-5, 2-1) in a 52-7 defeat.
The Pirates, who fell to Chabot in overtime the previous two years, scored 31 points off Chabot turnovers this time. Chabot saw its three-game winning streak snapped, while Modesto won its fourth in a row.
But the Gladiators can rebound quickly against Sequoias (3-5, 0-3) Saturday night at Gladiator Stadium. Sequoias has lost four in a row by an average of 25.8 points.
Chabot's Nohea Keahi, a sophomore linebacker, leads the Gladiators in total tackles with 75, averaging 9.4 a game (No. 12 in the state).

Chabot will open the season on with the third annual Chabot Tipoff (Nov. 10-12), with the Gladiators opening against Siskiyous at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10. The eight-team event will also feature Feather River, Marin, Cosumnes River, Allan Hancock, De Anza and Lassen.
The semifinals will be at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, and the championship game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

The Gladiators are springing to action with their season opener at Mission on Tuesday. Chabot will play its home opener on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Foothill.
Chabot (16-13, 9-3) is coming off a solid season in which it placed second in the Coast-North behind CCSF. The Gladiators won four in a row before falling to Sacramento City 72-65 in the CCCAA regional state playoffs.

Chabot (10-6, 3-6) dropped two decisions last week, 4-2 against De Anza and 2-0 against Hartnell, extending their losing streak to four.
Fabian Ruiz had a goal and an assist against De Anza, and Justyn Raygoza scored once. Kevin Gonzalez had an assist. Raygoza had six goals and five assists this season for 19 points.
The nicked-up Gladiators will look to turn things around this week at Monterey on Tuesday and at Canada on Friday.

Gabriella Nunez scored back-to-back goals in the second half as the Gladiators (2-11-2, 0-5-2) rallied for a 2-2 draw with Skyline. Breanna Aranda and Sydney Hollingsworth had assists. Goalkeeper Adel Lukong made five saves.

The young Gladiators (3-15, 0-8) dropped 3-0 decisions against Monterey and CCSF last week, after notching a 3-0 win over Contra Costa (25-11, 25-11, 25-11).

The impressive Las Positas men’s team finished second in the Coast Conference Championship at Crystal Springs in Belmont, as freshman David Frisbie, sophomore Bret Greene and freshman Zach Connely earned all-conference awards.
Frisbie placed sixth individually over the rare course distance of 4.19 miles in a time of 22 minutes, 17 seconds. Greene was ninth (22:52) and Connely was 11th (22:55). The squad also has Chabot athletes.
