WEEKLY ATHLETICS RECAP

Las Positas/Chabot cross country season preview

Coach Kyle Robinson says this may be the program's deepest men's team in years.
Key sophomores are Bret Greene of Alameda High and David Yeshiwas of Dublin. Both are looking to earn all-Coast Conference and all-Norcal awards.
Three standout freshmen should round out the top five. David Frisbie of Kennedy-Fremont comes in as the most decorated athlete. Frisbie was the Mt. SAC Invitational Champion in the 800 and 1,600 meters in the spring, and was the NCS Division III Boys Cross Country Champion last fall, covering the 3.0-mile Hayward High course in 14 minutes, 58.2 seconds.
Frisbie has a personal best of 1:53 in the 800, 4:14 in the mile and 14:58 for 3 miles. He has high hopes this season and may be in the hunt for an individual state title.
Jordan Kirby of Newark Memorial and Zach Connelly of Redwood Christian are not far behind with strong high school marks as well.
The season kicks off with the NorCal Preview meet in Folsom on Friday. The conference meet is Oct. 26 in Salinas, followed by the NorCal Championship on Nov. 5 in Folsom and the State Championship on Nov. 19 in Fresno.
