GUTIERREZ SHINES AT STATE GOLF

Anthony Gutierrez fired a sterling 1-under 71 in the afternoon round to finish tied for second at the CCCAA Championships Monday at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande.

Gutierrez had a 36-hole total of 149, two shots behind medalist Dylan Hall of Cypress. He had the low afternoon round after a 78 in the morning in chilly conditions.

The Gladiators, the Coast Conference, and NorCal team champion, finished sixth with a 411-407-818 total. Gutierrez made the All-State team by placing in the top six individuals. NorCal tourney standout Zack McClure broke 80 in each round, finishing 10th at 79-76-185.

TRACK AND FIELD

Impressive Chabot freshman Ari Milton qualified for the state meet in three events at the CCCAA NorCal Finals last week at De Anza in Cupertino.

Milton was third in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 11.60 meters, fourth in the 100 hurdles (14.56) and second in the 400 hurdles (1:04.15).

On the men’s side, Chabot freshmen David Frisbie and Jordan Kirby finished third and fourth in the men’s 800 at NorCals. Both runners earned spots in the CCCAA State Championship May 19-20 at American River in Sacramento.

Frisbie finished in 1:55.48 and Kirby in 1:55.82 in a blanket 800 finish. DVC sophomore Antwuin Prowess was the NorCal champ in 1:54.94.

Overall, the Chabot men finished tied with Siskiyous in 13th place with 19 points, and the Chabot women were 12th also with 19 points.

Chabot’s durable Bret Greene was third in the 10,000 (13:23.98) and seventh in the 5000 (15:39.82).
