WEEKLY ATHLETICS RECAP

Chabot weekly sports recap - 9/5/17

MEN’S SOCCER WALLOPS MARIN

The Chabot men’s soccer team got unassisted goals from Ramon Briceno, Christian Guzman and Brandon Sosa in a 3-0 win over Marin on Friday.

Adrian Mejia made four saves over 60 minutes in the shutout, and Alberto Rodriguez also workless 30 spotless minutes. The young Chabot squad (1-1) will travel to Napa Valley on Tuesday and Merritt on Friday, both games with 4 p.m. kickoffs.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

The Gladiators (0-0-1) will travel to Foothill on Tuesday and host Feather River on Friday. This past week’s scheduled games against Shasta (postponed) and Siskiyous (poor air quality) were not played.

Chabot opened the season with a 0-0 draw against Los Medanos with only 15 players suited up because of medical and personal issues. Sydney Hollingsworth created several scoring opportunities, including taking four shots on target, but the LMC keeper was up to the task. Nina Aseron led the Chabot defense.

Chabot coach Markus Bathelt said keeper KC (Kathryn) Lutes, in her college debut, had a “pretty solid” game and was “always in control of the situation.”

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Gladiators will open the season at home against Cosumnes River on Wednesday and Columbia on Friday.
