5/9/05: Swim Team Final Wrap-Up
The Chabot swim team ended an very successful year with the state swim champs held at DVC. The Glad's had a great dual meet season with the women finishing with a 5-1 league record, and the men with an undefeated season at 6-0. The conference meet proved a little more difficult, as illness to a couple of key swimmers and a lack of depth held the women to 4th and the men 2nd in conference. Although the men's team had several individual wins, they weren't able to counter West Valley's depth, and were eventually outscored.
Both teams are looking to improve on their final standings next year, as the Glad's will return 26 of the teams 2005 roster.
The team sent four freshman to the state meet: Rizza Hosain, Neal Hamilton, Andy Matthews, and Robert Greer. All four swimmers swam fast, with life time bests in their events. Neal Hamilton, was the individual STATE CHAMP in TWO events, the 400 IM and the 1650. He nearly won a third event the 200 backstroke, finishing 2nd by two tenths. Hamilton, had to a compete in the 200 back, ten minutes after winning the mile.
Here is a breakdown of the state meet:
Neal Hamilton:
400 IM/1st place/Time 3:57.30, new school record/2nd place ALL TIME California Comm. College
200 Backstroke/2nd place/Time 1:50.70, new school record/8th place ALL TIME CCC
