Springboard to Transfer

What Successful Students Say

"I have learned to become a ‘complete college student’ ... I have come to build long-term friendships with my fellow classmates and feel that I can go to them when I need help in or outside of school, something I never did in my other classes (I don’t think I've even talked to many people in my previous classes). Being in a program like this has many advantages... You’re able to build relationships with your teachers and get to have them help you out better when needed. You also get to be part of a small community of students that support you and want to learn."

"Springboard has brought me one step closer to achieving my goal of transferring to a four-year college. If you looked at my past college  history, it would speak to my lack of success, but each class I take now, each class I succeed in, brings me closer to my dreams of having a degree. I have been dreaming of this for many years now, and I am finally making it my reality. Springboard has helped me with that success. I am no longer a student who drops out of college."

--Nanci Sepulveda

"I’m very proud of the work I did. I wrote my first ten page paper, I finished my first college novel, I participated in some of my first college discussions, and I read some of the most challenging essays and articles in my life."

--La Shea Martin

"I cannot stress enough how good the program is and how it helped me grow into the student I am today. Right now I feel I have the skills, the abilities, and most importantly the confidence to be and do whatever I want in life. Which I will. I honestly feel that if I put mind to it I can really change the world, and I might never have felt like that if it was not for Dr. Hern and the Springboard program."

--Christian Yost

Both were part of the original group that started in Fall 2005, and both successfully passed all three levels of English. La Shea won the "Critical Voice" award, Chris the "Owning It" award.

"I came into English 102 not even able to write a one page paper, at least not one that I would want any one else to read. Now I am able to write an eight page paper -- that is something I had only imagined. I feel more confidence than I have ever felt before. Springboard to Transfer is a great program. Dr. Hern helped me to see my greater potential."

--Tiffany Boutwell

Tiffany Boutwell was part of the first two semesters of Springboard, then transferred to CSU East Bay. She received the "Leadership" award.
