Agenda for October 21, 2008
(note that this meeting will continue until 1:45 for those able to stay)

1. Quick tip:  How Ramona achieves amazing retention rates in her online classes.  5 minutes
    

2. Revision to drop policy for online students/agreement with LPC:  10 minutes

   1. Current language:  The instructor may drop students who miss the first meeting of a course.   In addition, an instructor may initiate a drop if the student is absent for a total of four (4) consecutive or six (6) cumulative instructional hours and/or two (2) consecutive weeks of instruction.

   2. Proposed language:  The instructor may drop students who miss the first meeting of a course.   The first meeting of online or hybrid Distance Education courses is the first day of the class as specified in the class schedule listing.  For these courses, instructors may drop students who do not login to their Blackboard course and/or complete indicated activities by the third day of classes.  In addition, an instructor may initiate a drop if the student is absent for a total of four (4) consecutive or six (6) cumulative instructional hours and/or two (2) consecutive weeks of instruction.

3.  Recap of our online course proposal reviews:  20 minutes.

   1. Which proposals are ?ready to go??

   2. Which proposals are good, but with some questions?

   3. Which proposals require serious discussion?

   Priority #1:  External faculty training opportunities/incentives
   Jan:  Quality Matters program.  10 minutes

   Priority #2:  Support of online counseling, online tutoring efforts
   Jan:  Quick update on ongoing efforts.  3 minutes

   Priority #3:  Establishment of multimedia lab(s) for faculty use
   Minta/Lisa:  Update on room availability, possible external help, timeline, $$ commitment.  5 minutes.

   Priority #4:  Full-time Blackboard student support person
   Lisa has a proposal, but recommend tabling until we can work the administrator support process. 1 minute.

   Priority #5:  Establishment of pilot podcasting classroom
   We need someone willing to lead this effort, to work with the Facilities and Technology Committees to find the right room and identify the right equipment.  A stipend might be available to do this??   5 minutes.
