online course approval process and timeline

SUMMER/FALL 2012 COURSES

  1. ASAP:  Review your course idea with your subdivision and dean to gain support for offering the course.  Note that the decisions to schedule an online course and the instructor assignment are matters for the subdivision and dean, not the Committee on Online Learning (COOL).

  1. ASAP:  Review the Online Course Consultation webpage for information to help you get started with online teaching and the Online Course Approval Process. If you haven't already used Blackboard, visit our get started resource.

  1. Monday February 6, 2012:  Submit electronic version and hard copy of online course delivery proposal (with all required signatures) to the COOL Chair (Ramona Silver).  Once you have submitted your proposal, a review team from the COOL will be assigned to review your proposal.   This small team will help you through the rest of the process.

  1. By Tuesday March 13, 2012:  Feedback on your course proposal from COOL members will be available in the Blackboard BOLT course.  Review and reply to this feedback, and incorporate in your course as needed.

  1. By Monday May 7, 2012:  Review your course shell plus 1-2 weeks of content with your COOL review team.  We also encourage you to share the course with your colleagues, but this isn't required.  Feedback will be provided both at your meeting and following the final committee vote.

  1. 2-3 weeks before the semester begins:  Have your course reviewed by the Instructional Designer. Once your course is ready for the Formative Evaluation, please use the Blackboard Support Request form and indicate in the comments box "Formative Evaluation" and the CRN of the course that should be reviewed.
