My elementary school career aptitude test recommended I be a Park Ranger. I scoffed at the recommendation at the time, thinking of Park Rangers as the people who checked your campsites and led campfire activities, I now realize how close that exam was to both my interests and talents. I love the outdoors and I am fascinated by how the complex systems of nature seem to work so effortlessly. I went to graduate school because I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, and I chose to specialize in neuroscience because mild autism runs in my family and I wanted a better understanding of how the brain worked. In grad school I was not very enthusiastic about my research project (Mathematical Modeling of the Rhythmic Firing Pattern of the Mesencephalic Nucleus of the Trigeminal Nerve) and I fell in love with teaching. So, I switched to studying Curriculum in Science Education and I've been in education ever since, trying to figure out how to simply explain complex processes.
