Kay Fischer is currently the chair of the Ethnic Studies department, Academic Senate representative for the Social Sciences division, and adviser for the Stay Woke Collective student club. For more information about the Ethnic Studies program, check out: ​ Professor Fischer was born and raised in Japan and moved to the Bay when she was 9. She is of mixed heritage: Russian-Jewish American on her father's side, and Zainichi-Korean (post-colonial Korean in Japan) on her mother's side. After high school, she attended De Anza College in the south bay and transferred to UC Berkeley to major in Ethnic Studies. She also has an MA in Teaching from USF, and an MA in Asian American Studies from SF State.
