Frequently Asked Questions

My computer froze, what can I do?

On the Mac G4, there are two small buttons at the bottom front of the tower. The button on the left has a small triangle on it, it is called the reset button. Push it and your computer will restart. If your computer is frozen in an application (the pointer moves, but you can’t do anything), hold down the following three keys on your keyboard (option, apple/command, escape). [The command key is the key with an apple on it to the left of the space bar.] You will see a dialog box asking if you want to quit the application, click OK. . On a Windows PC, turn computer off then count to 10 and turn it on again.

On the iMac G5, pull down the Apple menu, go to "Force Quit."  In the Force Quit window, select the application that was opening when the freeze (or spinning wheel) occurred, then click the Force Quit button (do not force quit Finder.)   If for whatever reason that didn't work, hold down the power button on the back of the monitor/CPU until the machine shuts down.  Count to five and restart.

How does one right click (like on a PC) with the Apple mouse?

Hold down the Control key on your keyboard while clicking.
