Course Description

ENGR 25 - Comp Methods Engineer/ Science
Credits: 3.00
Methodology and techniques for solving engineering/science problems using numerical-analysis computer-application programs MATLAB and EXCEL. Technical computing and visualization of problems in mechanics, electrical circuits, biology, thermal systems, fluid systems and other branches of science and engineering. Prerequisite: Mathematics 1. Strongly recommended: Computer Application Systems 8 or Computer Science 8. May not receive credit if Mathematics 25 or Physics 25 has been completed.

  • Please Bring a $3 Print Card (Available in Chabot Library)
  • Any Student with a MATLAB-Capable LapTop Computers are asked to BRING the LapTop to the EXAM as an OverFlow BackUp
  • TEST the Print Card in the Rm3906 Lab BEFORE the Exam

Exam Information

All students are asked to bring to the exam

  • A $3 (minimum value) GoPrint Printing-Card
    • TEST the GoPrint Card in Lab 3906 BEFORE the exm
  • A ONE-Page Student Reference Sheet (SRS) as prepared by the Student
    • The SRS MUST Be HAND WRITTEN
  • The Course TEXT BOOK
  • Any MakeUp Exam will Incur a 15% discount so students are strongly encouraged to take the exam as scheduled
  •  Any Student Who has NOT used the MicroSoft Office-2007 version of Excel should go to the Rm3906 Lab prior to exam to become acquainted with Excel-2007

Note that for all Exams there will be ASSSIGNED SEATING as described in the Syllabus:

  • There will be ASSIGNED SEATING for all exams.
    • On Exam Days the instructor will place the exams on the desks, FACE DOWN, with a student name written on the back of the Exam. Each Student is requested to find the exam with his/her name on it and take that seat withOUT turning over the exam until notified by the instructor.
  • All students are requested to be ON TIME on Exam Days.

  • Every student is asked to CHECK the recorded scores for accuracy - please report any errors to the instructor
  • Students may project his/her final grade using the WhatIf worksheet

Revised Instructions for HW7 P4.23

  • Write an M-File that prompts the user for:

    • The TYPE of CONNECTION (Series or Parallel)

    • the NUMBER of RESISTORS, n

    • The VALUE of the RESISTANCE, R, in ohms (assume that all Resistors are the SAME Resistance)

  • TEST your M-File for both  the Series & Parallel cases using 13 resistors with 47 ohm resistance
