MY
TEACHING PHILOSOPHYStatement of Teaching Philosophy
My philosophy of teaching and learning is based on five principles of effective learning:
A faculty member in a student-centered community college should view him/herself as one who facilitates students’ exploration of the subject, provides expertise in the application of the course concepts to practical exercises, assists individuals in achieving their academic and professional goals through goal clarification, activation, learning, and acquiring necessary experience. A community college instructor creates a community of learners by dynamic and interactive learning, using technology, promoting diversity, and emphasizing the concept of "global village."
My teaching style is based on the stated principles of effective learning. It emphasizes interdisciplinary connections, willingness to learn from students, connections between theoretical knowledge and practical experience, flexibility, commitment to teamwork, active learning, and using technology to enhance learning experiences. I strive to build a community of learners in all of my classes: traditional, evening, online. One of my main goals is helping students to see themselves as part of community of learners instead of individuals struggling alone.
Expertise in the business field and the community college teaching,
commitment to pluralism and cultural diversity, and skills in using
instructional technology allow me to be an innovative teacher and effective
facilitator.
