Tritonia festiva

Steam Engine; Monterey, CA

One of the prettier nudibranchs in the Monterey area, Tritonia festiva is characterized by a translucent white body with bright white diamond shaped markings (though, reportedly, the ground color may be yellow to brown, as well.) As in most dendronotids, the gill tufts are located along the sides. The rhinophores are surrounded by a brown fuzzy tuft. They feed on octocorals and sea pens. This one is posing near it's egg mass.
