Exploring Ancient World Cultures

I am teaching two humanities classes this fall: HUMN1, Epics, and HUMN30, Religion and Contemporary Society.

In HUMN1, we will be reading four epic narratives: The Bhagavad Gita, The Analects of Confucius, The Republic, and The Aenied.  We will consider the effect of these documents on culture, specifically their influence on our conceptions of the moral llife, the good life, and the purpose of human existence.

In HUMN30, we will be working with theories about the nature of religion and considering how religion and contemporary culture interact.  In the end, how does culture affect religion and how does religion affect culture?
