Education
Ever since taking an Introduction to International Relations course
as my first college class, I've been hooked on learning about the
world, about studying politics, and about travelling as much as I
can. I graduated from UC Davis with highest honors in
International Relations. My Masters and Doctoral degrees are from
the University of Delaware Global Governance program. I have
traveled to 40 U.S. states and extensively in Europe, North and
Central America, the South Pacific and Southeast Asia.
However, my greatest education continues to come from my time in the
classroom where, every semester, students teach me to see the world in
new ways. I love to teach and I aim to inspire students to
learn about domestic and international politics.
Research
My graduate research and subsequent articles examined post-conflict
reconciliation. In
other words, what can or should states do to heal society after violent
conflict ends? I continue to be interested in how individual
experiences intersect with state constructs of history and
memorialization of conflict. In July, 2011, I participated in the
NEH 2011 Summer Institute "From Freedom Summer to the Memphis
Sanitation Workers Strike", an intensive site-based workshop on a
critical period and important locations in the American Civil Rights
Struggle. Currently, I am working on several projects
looking at: civic engagement - particularly among students and
pedagogical
techniques in the classroom. Both my edited International
Relations anthology and recently published Workbook, "Mock Congress:
Simulating the House of Representatives" are available

Work
Before coming to Chabot I taught at the University of Delaware,
California State University, East Bay and was a program coordinator at
California College of the Arts. Outside of work I keep busy with
my husband and our two sons.
