I. Separate counseling appointments will probably be booked by the time you arrive in the country.  Use the short counseling services provided at assessment sessions that indicate inclusion of Program Planning.  The counselor should be able to give you enough information so you can register for your first term.  If you still need additional counseling, you may go to the counseling department in Building 100.  Be sure to tell the counseling receptionist you are an

F-1 visa International Student.  Please ask to first see the International Student Counselor, Ms. Sadie Ashraf or Mr. Michael D”Aloisio.  If neither is available, ask for a “drop in” standby appointment for any counselor. If you plan to transfer to a four-year college or university after Chabot, please advise the counselor as to which college you think you want to transfer.  There is a sequence to follow for California State University and University of California transfer students. You will need to book an international student counseling appointment with Ms. Sadie Ashraf sometime in mid-September 2008 for long term Student Educational Planning.  These appointments are generally 30-60 minutes long.  Our goal is to confirm your Fall courses immediately then concentrate on your future once you have settled into the new term.

Chabot College does not have a foreign transcript evaluator on staff.  If you wish to transfer foreign college credit towards a Chabot College degree, you must have the foreign transcript evaluated by a foreign transcript evaluation service.  The fee charged by these services is approximately $125.00.  If you wish to transfer foreign college credit towards your future transfer school’s bachelor’s degree, you must have that transcript evaluated by the transfer school.  Most four-year colleges and universities have a foreign transcript evaluator on staff.

II.  Once you have determined which classes you want you must first check to see if they are still open.  Chabot’s registration system is accessed via our website @ www.chabotcollege.edu then clicking on Class Web.  You’ll need to know your school ID number and your initial PIN is your birthdate MMDDYY. (Example: If your date of birth is March 20, 1988 or 20MAR1988, your PIN would be 032088)  If you are having difficulty accessing the web registration system, please follow the link to the CLASS-Webmaster or go to the Student Online Services office located in the lobby of Building 100.

III.  For those of you arriving early or transferring from another school, please complete your registration prior to leaving for vacation.  If you wait, the classes may not be available by the time you return.

IV.  After arriving, the International Student Office will need a copy of your passport and F-1 visa.  At the immigration port of entry the officer will stamp your I-20 and your I-94 Departure Record (white card stapled inside passport upon arrival). We will need a copy of pages 1 and 3 of the stamped I-20 and a copy of  the stamped front and the back of the I-94.

If you need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the International Student Program (isp). WE LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING YOU IN PERSON AT THE  INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2008,  BEGINNING @ 10:00 AM until 5 PM at Room 506 (Building 500).

TRANSFER STUDENTS; F-1 Students transferring from another U.S. college (non ESL) but New to Chabot College:

If you arrive too late to take the assessment with counseling session and have never attended a U.S. college:
You should still complete the online orientation then take our English and Math assessment test on one of the drop-in dates listed previously.  Try to schedule an appointment or drop in to see the International Student Counselor, Ms. Sadie Ashraf or Mr. Michael D’Aloisio.  If you are unable to see a counselor and need assistance with your scheduling, please contact the International Student Program office.  You are also free to register on your own but will need to schedule a formal counseling SEP appointment in late September.
