Syllabus Mathematics 57 – Geometry Effective Fall 2004
Text: College Geometry; Musser and Trimpe; Prentice Hall Supplementary Materials for the Student: Student Activity and Study Guide
Comments: Get the syllabus for Math 37 in which College Geometry is used for the geometry portion of the course. Follow those portions of the syllabus referring to geometry. Ignore all comments referring to trigonometry, and omit the approximation of π at the end of Chapter 3. By the Math 37 syllabus, 34 hours of instruction time is allocated for geometry. This is an aggressive schedule so more time may be needed to cover some sections. Because a typical syllabus for a three unit class calls for 42 hours of instruction time, even if you spend more than 34 hours covering the geometry portions of the Math 37 syllabus you may still have time to do more. If so, consider covering some of the theorems in Chapters 5, 6, and 7 that are shown as optional on the syllabus.
TOTAL HOURS: 34 (plus extra hours to be used as instructor chooses)
Possible Exam Schedule: Exam 1: Sections 2.1, 2.2, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 5.1, 5.2, 6.1 Exam 2: Sections 6.2, 6.3, 3.3, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 Exam 3: Sections 8.1, 8.2, 8.4, 5.3, 5.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 Final: Comprehensive including Sections 3.4 and 3.5
