|
Beverly Johnson holds a B.A., an M.A. and California Teaching Credential from California State University East Bay. She has also attended the University of Redlands, San Francisco Conservatory, Wright State University, and Cincinnati Conservatory pursuing graduate studies. She has been teaching in the public schools since 1984, currently in Hayward Unified, where she is responsible for vocal and instrumental music programs in four elementary and middle schools. Beverly is a well-known free lance flutist throughout the Bay Area, performing with several orchestras, bands, chamber groups and theater productions. She is a retired Air Force Band musician, having served for 30 years in active duty Air Force and Reserve Air Guard bands. Being one of the first women to serve in this career field of the military, it is also noteworthy that she was also one of the first women to serve as First Sergeant and later the superintendent of a military band. Beverly is very involved in the Hayward La Honda Music Camp, where she teaches band, flute technique, chamber music and music theory, as well as serving as the director of the junior camp. Also a member of the Hayward Municipal Band, each summer one can observe not only her flute and piccolo playing, but an occasional vocal feature as well. Ms. Johnson teaches Applied Flute and Community Concert Band at Chabot College. |
