Beverly Johnson
holds a B.A., an M.A. and California Teaching Credential from California
State University East Bay. She has also attended the University of
Redlands, San Francisco Conservatory, Wright State University, and
Cincinnati Conservatory pursuing graduate studies. She has been teaching
in the public schools since 1984, currently in Hayward Unified,
where she is responsible for vocal and instrumental music programs in
four elementary and middle schools. Beverly is a well-known free lance
flutist throughout the Bay Area, performing with several orchestras,
bands, chamber groups and theater productions. She is a retired Air
Force Band musician, having served for 30 years in active duty Air Force
and Reserve Air Guard bands. Being one of the first women to serve in
this career field of the military, it is also
noteworthy that she was also one of the first women to serve as
First Sergeant and later the
superintendent of a military band. Beverly
is very involved in the Hayward La Honda Music Camp, where she
teaches band, flute technique, chamber music and music theory, as well
as serving as the director of the junior camp. Also a member of the
Hayward Municipal Band, each
summer one can observe not only her flute and piccolo playing, but an
occasional vocal feature as well. Ms. Johnson teaches Applied
Flute and Community Concert Band at Chabot College. |
