Ensembles
Recognized as one of the premier
ensembles of its kind, the Chabot Wind Symphony is comprised of the most
outstanding musicians in the greater Bay Area. The Wind Symphony has been highly
praised for "…musical and inspiring performances," and "truly fine
music making." Known for adventurous
programming, the group pursues a commitment to performing new and
historically significant music for wind band. The Chabot Wind Symphony pursues
the highest professional standards and is determined to bring its audiences the
finest artistic repertoire from all musical periods, cultures, and styles.
The Chabot Symphonic Band
fosters the highest performance standards while offering its members an
opportunity to expand their technical, intellectual, and musical horizons. The
symphonic band is open to any Chabot student, although the majority of the
players are selected from the musicians in the Department of Music. Through
various demonstrations of flexible instrumentation, the ensemble allows the
musicians to experience the highest levels of participation in the music making
process. In addition, the group seeks to broaden performance and life skills
through the programming of exemplary literature while fostering an interest in
the band as an integral part of the American musical scene.
The Community Concert Band is
open to any community instrumental musician wishing to continue their musical
growth. This ensemble offers its members an opportunity for musical expression
and fellowship along with making a lasting contribution to musical life locally.
In addition, the ensemble seeks to broaden performance skills through the
programming of quality literature while fostering an interest in mentoring and
education.
Chamber Winds
The Chamber Winds is a small,
flexible instrumentation ensemble that is composed of the top students from the
music department. The Chamber Winds serve as musical ambassadors for the
instrumental music area, traveling to and recruiting at local high schools, in
addition to performing at events on the college campus. Musicians are exposed to
the standard performance practices and repertoire of the genera.
A multi-award-winning group, the
Jazz Orchestra has been the flagship of the music department since 1968.
This ensemble is the home of outstanding professional musicians and music
educators in the community. This ensemble has traveled to Japan to represent
Hayward at our sister city Funabashi as well as accompanied jazz greats such as
Mel Torme, Doc Severinsen, Rosemary Clooney, Ernie Watts, Lew Soloff, Bobby
Shew, Ledisi and many more.
The Jazz Ensemble is our top
multi-award winning student jazz group that consists primarily of music majors.
This group finished in the top five amongst two-year schools at a national jazz
festival in Reno, Nevada, in 2006 and 2007. In addition, the Jazz Band was invited
to compete with top four-year schools in the country at the Next Generation’s
Festival 2006 sponsored by Monterey Jazz Festival.
The Jazz Lab caters to
individuals to expand their musical experience in Jazz as well as challenge
their ability to contribute in an ensemble setting. This group is a major
performance ensemble that consists of several music majors as well as several
members from the community.
Designed as an integral part if
the Jazz Studies Program, the Jazz Combos develop aspiring young musicians to
enhance their ability to improvise in a small ensemble setting. Throughout the
semester, these combos focus on literature reflecting several jazz styles from
the swing to contemporary styles.
