Students

A: Yes! Simply look up the class in the Virtual Bookstore. If the instructor has indiciated required or recommended course materials, you can see what they are before enrolling.

A: Yes, you will need to activate a free account on the bookstore's home page. We recommend using your Chabot College email to create your account.

A: If you do not have a credit card but have applied for Financial Aid and receive some form of support (Pell/Cal Grants or loans through the college), you will receive a Bank Mobile debit card. You may choose to use this card as your refund (grant/loan payment) preference and for online purchases at the virtual bookstore. 

Student Services will also invite representatives from the now University Credit Union (formerly Chabot Credit Union) to table during the first few weeks of the semester to help students set up other credit/debit card accounts and provide additional options for students.

A: The Chabot Library will receive books for students without a permanent address. Please use the following as your delivery address in the virtual bookstore.

A: Navigate to the Bookstore home page, and then click Let's Get Started.

You may be prompted to sign in to your account or create a new one. We recommend using your Chabot Zonemail address as the email.

Step One: Choose Course Materials

Using the drop-down options, select the term in which you are buying the books [1], then the department [2], and finally, the course [3]. You can add more than one course at a time by clicking Add Another Course [4]. After you have selected all of your courses, click on View Your Materials [5] to continue.

Step Two: View Selected Material and Choose Pricing

View selected material. Review course name, book title, and various price options. Select a price option, click Add Selected to Cart, then Proceed to Checkout.

"Materials Available on Canvas/Library or with Instructor" could mean that:

  • Your instructor will distribute a supply list in class or on Canvas (our Learning Management System)
  • Your instructor is using OER (Open Educational Resources) or ZTC (Zero Textbook Cost) and will show you how to access these free resources
  • Or, your instructor will clarify the course requirements once the semester begins

A note of No Text Required For This Course will be posted for courses with no required books. 

An option to add other material to your cart will pop up; if you are not interested, click No Thanks, Continue to Checkout.

Step Three: Proceed

Click on Proceed to Checkout. You may see optional add-ons recommended by Barnes & Noble as "Grade Builders." These are not suggested by your instructors. Click on No Thanks, Continue to Checkout.

Step Four: Review Your Cart

Select the right course material and price option that works for you; then, click on Check Out Now.

Step Five: Access Your Account

If you haven't already, sign in to your existing account using your email address and password or create a new account. We recommend using your Chabot Zonemail address as the email. 

Step four, create an account or log in if you already have an account.

 

Step Six: Add Your Details
  1. Verify or enter your billing address, shipping address, and contact information.
  2. Click Shipping Method and make your choice. The anticipated delivery date will be displayed along with each shipping method. Marketplace items are shipped by individual sellers, not BNC Virtual. Choose a shipping method for each Marketplace seller.
  3. Verify or enter your payment information.
  4. When you are ready to check out, click Review Your Order.

Please note: If you have selected a rental option, you must enter a credit card number to charge if materials are not returned.

Step Seven: Submit Your Order 

Review your final balance due, privacy policy, rental terms, terms of service, and shipping terms and conditions. When you are finished, click Review Your Order. Your receipt and confirmation will appear on the next page.

Please note: Your order will be processed and shipped within 24 hours. Once submitted, it cannot be changed or canceled. 

 

A: No. These items are similar to cart add-ons provided by many merchants. They are not necessary or recommended by your instructor.

A: Log in to your bookstore account. You will find your ebooks under Your Digital Content on your account page.

A: Chabot College is providing free student testing resources (Scantrons, Blue Books and Pencils) through the FRESH Pantry and Pop-up Pantry sponsored by the Student Equity Office.

Please pick up yours in the Library beginning Thursday, May 11 afternoon during regular library hours and at the Welcome Desk in Building 700.

A: Print textbooks/course materials purchased directly from BNC Virtual must be returned within 2 weeks after class start date or within 21 days of date shipped, whichever is later. However, note that if more than 50% of the term has passed, based on the posted course start and end dates, materials are no longer eligible for return credit.

To return print textbooks/course materials purchased directly from BNC Virtual, please:

  1. Log in to your account
  2. Go to the Return Center under your orders
  3. Select the item(s) you want to return, and generate a pre-paid UPS return label.

The cost of return shipping will be deducted from your return credit.

 

Additional information from Barnes & Noble Virtual:

  • Non-activated eBooks, digital content, and access codes can be returned within 14 days after class start date or within 14 days of purchase, whichever is later. To return non-activated eBooks, digital content, and access codes, please contact customer support.
  • NOTE: Digital content such as access codes, eBooks, etc. are non-returnable once accessed, activated, downloaded, or revealed. No exceptions.
  • Apple iBooks are not eligible for a return or refund at any time. All sales are final.
  • For traditional-length courses, rental books must be returned for refund within 14 days of purchase. For courses shorter than 4 weeks, rental books must be returned for a refund before 50% of the course has passed. To return a rental item, please log in to your account, go to the Return Center under your orders, select the rental(s) you want to return, and generate a pre-paid UPS return label. The cost of return shipping will be deducted from your return credit.
  • We do not pay for shipping on returns. However, for your convenience, we do offer the option of pre-paid UPS shipping. Please look for this option in the Returns Center under your account. Pre-paid shipping costs are based on weight and location.

Selling Back Books

Barnes & Noble may purchase back your books if they are needed in their inventory.

  1. Create or log in to your bookstore account.
  2. Click on Menu > Sell Your Textbooks.
  3. Enter the book ISBN and other info as required to receive your quote and shipping information.

Returning Rentals

Log in to your account, then go to the rentals section, and select the refund link. Follow the steps on the screen, indicate the reason for return, and print your pre-paid shipping label.

 

Can I Return My Rental to the Library?

There are no drop-off bins for bookstore return rentals, including at the library. You will not receive credit for the return if you drop off the rental at the library.
