Chabot sports roundup, Feb. 13

 

TWENTY WIN SALUTE
The Chabot women’s basketball team blew past the 20-win plateau with back-to-back victories last week, extending its winning streak to four.
The Gladiators (21-7, 9-2) have locked up second place in the Coast-North behind CCSF, the only team to beat them in conference play.
 Sophomore floor leader Tylore Bell had her usual well-rounded effort in a 68-50 win over Las Positas, with 18 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Ugo Obiama pulled down 16 rebounds and scored half as many points. De’Zire Hall had another double-double with 12 points and 13 boards.
After a tight first quarter against the improving Hawks, the Gladiators outscored them 35-13 over the second and third quarters to take command.
Four of the Gladiators’ five starters reached double figures in a 78-54 win over College of San Mateo  Hall (15), Aiyanna Gallegos (14), Ariana Vargas (12), and Bell (10). Obiama had seven boards and seven points.
Chabot will close the regular season at Ohlone on Wednesday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Gladiators (4-21, 1-10) will close out the season at Ohlone Wednesday.

SOFTBALL
The Gladiators dropped a doubleheader to host Sequoias on Saturday, 7-2 and 7-5. They will look to rebound with a doubleheader at home against West Hills on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Chabot is preparing for its conference opener at De Anza on Feb. 22
In the 7-5 loss to Sequoias, Chabot's Desiree Gonzalez and Brieanna Lewis both had two hits, including a double. Lewis and Chelsea Sligh had RBIs, and Gonzalez scored twice.

BASEBALL
Playing a very tough nonconference schedule, the Gladiators (2-5) dropped a doubleheader at Fresno City on Sunday, 4-1 and 6-0. Shortstop Vince Volpatti was 2 for 3 in the 6-0 defeat. Mark Bontempo worked a scoreless 1.2 innings.
Chabot will host Cosumnes River at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
