Chabot basketball playoff preview

The Chabot women’s basketball team earned a No. 9 seed and a tough draw in the Northern California Regionals of the CCCAA State Playoffs, but Gladiators coach Mark Anger knows his young squad will put up another strong effort.
Chabot (22-5) will make the long trek to No. 8 Feather River (20-8) on Friday in Round 2, with the winner traveling to No. 1 Sierra (27-1) in Round 3 on March 3. The Gladiators finished a fine second in the Coast-North, behind only CCSF, seeded fourth in the playoffs.
Anger is accustomed to traveling great distances for the playoffs, so the trip to Quincy is nothing new.
“In the past years we have been to Arcata and Weed. I feel like we are ready for the challenge,” Anger says. “We have grown up a lot this year and we will go and compete.”
What does he expect for Feather River?
“They shoot a lot of threes and they like to run,” he says.
The Gladiators are averaging 82.4 points a game and shooting 41.4 percent from the field, including 33.6 percent from 3-point range. Shooting guard Olivia Vezaldenos is averaging a team-best 19.2 points a game (17th in the state), and Mia Finnie (13.4 ppg) and Kim Masulit (13.1 ppg) are also having solid seasons.
Va Draunidalo paces Feather River with 15.7 points a game.
