and Shanika Davis we hope have even a better year next year.
Last years Chabot Male Athlete of the year Aaron Macklin running track for Texas Christian University placed fourth in the MWC Championships and qualified for the NCAA regionals with a 52.48 in the 400 meter hurdles. The regionals will take place next week and the top athletes will go to the National Championships. Congratulations to Aaron.
5/18/08: Laura Zimbrick Placed third in the discus (132' 6") and
Anthony Mc Can also placed third in the 800 meters(1:54.10). Those are the
highest places in the California state meet in six years for any Chabot athlete.
Rob Gire set a personal best in the Discus 160'8" and placed 7th while Shanika
Davis set personal bests in five of the seven events and scored 139 more points
4041 but placed eighth. Craig Simpson also had a personal best in the men's
hammer and placed ninth. Joey Nunes and Ivan Medina did NOT PR in the extreme
heat and smog of LA but finsihed the season well.
Congratulations to the seven who qualified and performed well in the California
State Meet. A great effort and result by Laura and Tony for their Third place
finishes!
5/12/08: Congratulations to six Chabot Track and field athletes who are heading to the California State Championships! Rob Gire scored 16 points and qualified in three events to lead the men. Rob set personal bests in the Hammer 145' 8" and Shot Put 49' 7 1/4 " and placed fourth in the Discus with a throw of 153'3". Craig Simpson also had a personal best in the Hammer 147'1" to join Rob in the State Hammer. Joey Nunes had a Personal best in the 5,000 Meter (12.5 laps) 15: 56.9 and will head to the state Championships as well as Tony McCan in the 800. In the featured race of the day McCan had a personal best of 1:54.59 to place fourth by less than a yard. Last years defending Nor Cal champ failed to qualify in a great field. The only problem for Tony was he had to immediately compete in the high Jump when he failed to clear an opening height since he had to continue to pass to try and gain his legs and wind back. The women will send Shanika Davis and Laura Zimbrick to Cerritos College for the State meet. Shanika scored 14 points in six different events while Laura scored eleven in her three throws. Shanika had a personal best in the 100 Meters 12.32 and ran on the 4x100 relay team (PB of 50.45) that placed fifth (top four go). Shanika like Tony had to compete in the Triple Jump immediately after the 400 hurdles and failed to qualify in those two events but did score in both. Laura who will compete in the Hammer, Discus and Shot Put was right at her personal bests in the Hammer and Shot Put but fell off a little in her favorite event the discus but still placed fourth . The men's team placed eighth overall in Nor Cal while the women placed twelfth. The six competitors leave Thursday for the two day event, wish them luck and please release them from class!
5/3/08: The Northern California track and field trials are over
and despite personal bests and peak performances only a few in all of Northern
California remain. The top nine in every event move on to Modesto Junior College
this coming Friday for the Nor Cal Championships where only the top FOUR will
have the right to go to the California State Championships.
The Men will have Rob Gire in the Hammer, Discus and Shot Put, Anthony Mc Can in
the 800 and High Jump, Joey Nunes in the 1500 and 5000 and Craig Simpson in the
Hammer. These four young men must have a great day on Friday or they will not
make the trip to Cerritos College May 16 and 17th. The men's 800 meters will be
an unbelievable race since all nine qualifiers are within a second of each other
and six of the qualifiers including Anythony Mc Can have led the state at one
point this season and that does not include last years Nor Cal Champ who is also
in the race.
The women are led by Shinka Davis who qualified in Five events 100, 400 hurdles,
4x100 relay, Long Jump and Triple Jump where she once again had a PR. Laura
Zimbrick moves on in the Shot Put, Hammer and Discus where she has one of the
best marks in the State. Shanika is joined by Mary Ratterman, Sequoyah Reed and
Felesha Adams on the 4x100 relay who ran a seasons best 50.42 and placed fifth
on Friday.
Congratulations to all those who ran this year and failed to qualify and GOOD
LUCK to all those still working towards the California State Championships.

and Felesha Adams, Shanika Davis, Erielle Lamb, Marry Ratterman, Sequoyah Reed

might want to travel to the coast AND see a great track meet.
Eleven men and eight women have already qualified for the Nor Cal Trials the
following week and we are hoping several others join them after the Conference
Championships.

Shanika scored 500 points higher than her previous Hep. and had season and personal bests in 5 of the 7 events. An unfortunate rule violation (that I should have protested) cost her at least 140 points and the chance for the gold in her best event the Long Jump. Her PR's were in the 800, 100 hurdles, Javelin, High Jump and the 200 meters were her 25.72 also moved her into the top ten in school history. Congratulations again to Shanika who now moves onto the California state Championships in May at Cerritos College.

4/22/05: Once again David Mc Donald (Mt. Eden ) led the Chabot Gladiator Track team. David started the day off with a huge PR in the Javelin 170' 8" (third all-time) to win the event and become the first Conference Champion iin the meet. David also Pr in the High Jump placing 6th. Anthony Burrell also had a huge PR in the Javeling 159'8" finishing 4th and he also fiihsed 6th in the hammer. John Lothin (Logan) PR in the Hammer throwing 127'6", finishing 3rd, 8th on our all-time list and qualifing for the Nor Cal Championships. 4/14/05: David Mc Donald (Mt. Eden) just completed his second day of his first EVER decathlon. If you remember from yesterday he had personal bests in all five events and was in sixth place starting today (top six go to state meet). Well the day definitely did not start out well for David, he did poorly in the 110Meter Hurdles, the Discus and Pole Vault and with two events to go was now in seventh place. The Javelin is normally David's best event and in a tough wind he did not throw a personal best but on the last throw hit 153'11" very near his best ever. That but him back in the lead but by only 33 points with his least favorite event the 1500 Meter Run. Compounding the problem the athlete in sixth Beau Bean from Fresno City College had a personal best almost 40 seconds better than David. The race plan was simple you have to be within 5 seconds of him or he goes to the State Meet and you stay home. Both athletes ran a great race and with about 250 Meters to go Beau Bean made his move a broke from David quickly and distinctly. David McDonald then put on a huge gutsy move of his own and both athletes sprinted down the straight away with everything on the line. When Beau crossed the line the clock read 4:53.52 when David crossed the line the clock read 4:59.07 ( a personal best of over 23 seconds) it was too close to call. All the officials had to wait for the computer to give out the final point totals..... Beau Bean, Fresno City, 5293 points, David McDonald, Chabot College, 5293 points..... A TIE!! CONGRATULATIONS to David McDonald he is going to the California State meet in the Decathlon. Two days of competing and torture and hundredths of seconds counting for every point and they end up in a tie. If any of you see David congratulate him not for the accomplishment which in itself is great but more for the phenomenal guts and effort on the last run.
4/13/05: David Mc Donald (Mt. Eden) who just barely qualified for his first decathalon, had a great first day. Dave went in with a first day best point total of 2209 points and after recording personal bests in ALL FIVE EVENTS scored 2979 points. Dave had phenomenal personal bests in the 100 meters 11.50 from 12.07 and in the Long Jump from 19' 0" to 22' 3 1/4". Dave also Improved and had his lifetime bests in the High Jump, Shot Put and 400 Meters. Presently, Dave a freshman is in sixth place and the top six will go on to the California State Championships. Wish him luck as he goes back tomorrow to compete in the last five events. We will keep you posted.
