Diane Zuliani, Instructor of Art History and Museum Studies, Chabot College; Chair, Chabot Public Art Committee Community Service: Hayward Area Historical Society Board Member, 2006 - 2008 Sun Gallery Board Member, 2001-2003 Public Art Statement: From the Italian Renaissance until today, the placement of artwork in the public sphere is a sign of a community’s sense of self-worth. Selecting art for public display is never an easy task—no one “public” agrees on anything—but it is always worth the risk. To install permanent, public works of visual art in one’s environment is to demonstrate civic pride and to take a stand for beauty. ADMINISTRATIVE REPRESENTATIVES![]()

My own community service has included serving on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco National Organization for Women, volunteer public relations for the Women's Foundation and for Curbstone Press (a nonprofit literary publisher), organizing creative writing after-school programs for teens, and regularly volunteering for several environmental, youth, and gay and lesbian organizations. Public Art Statement: I am delighted that Chabot, a college that serves one of the most diverse communities in the country, is getting this wonderful opportunity to bring high-quality public art to its campus, and I'm excited to be part of the selection process. As well as reflecting our student body and the mission of the college, public art can inspire, unite, beautify, and provide focal points for discussion and reflection on our campus. ![]()
