The Chabot College Council passed a resolution to delete the on-campus smoking provisions of our smoking policy. On behalf of the Health and Safety Committee I wanted to inform everyone that starting in the Fall Semester, August 20, 2009, there will no longer be any smoking allowed on campus and smoking will be limited to the parking lots only. There are a number of Colleges that have adopted this policy with Las Positas having recently done so.
The implementation schedule will be that the smoking signage will be taken down over the summer and new signage directing people not to smoke in the campus' interior will be visible. In conjunction with this, the Health Center will be providing literature regarding the health hazards of smoking. Handouts will be mailed to all students who purchase parking permits, emails will be sent out and signs will be posted.
The enforcement of this new policy will begin Fall Semester, August 20, 2009 and it will be enforced equally among faculty, staff and students.
