Gladiators sent two women to the State Championships held at East LA
College in Monterey Park, Ca.
Nicole Houghtelling finished 4th in the 50 Fly with a
time of 26.76 just one-tenth off the school record. She finished 12th
in the 50 Back in a time of 29.20. That time is the second fastest
time in school history. In addition, she also finished 20th
in the 50 Free. Josanne van
der Wilk finished 7th in the mile. Her time,
18:43.95, was the third fastest in school history. She also finished
16th in the 500 Free.
Coast Conference Championships
Gladiators finished the 2011 season with a strong showing at the
Coast Conference Championships held at Ohlone College.
The women’s team finished third just 20 points behind second place Foothill College. The men’s team finished seventh.
The women entered the meet with
over 60 points earned by Chabot divers,
Stephanie Sizemore and
Jessica Gerds, at the NOR
CAL Diving Championships held the Saturday before at Las Positas
College. Emily finished 3rd on the 3-meter and 5th
on the one-meter. Stephanie was 4th on the three-meter
and 6th on one-meter. Jessica finished 10th on
The women’s team was lead by
Nicole Houghtelling and
Josanne van der Wilk. Houghtelling took first in both the 50 fly
& 100 Free and finished second in the 50 Free. All three swims were
personal bests and state qualifying times. Van der Wilk won the mile
and took second in both the 200 & 500 Free. Again, all three swims
were personal bests and she qualified for State in the 500 & mile.
Houghtelling and van der Wilk were joined by
Priscilla Yeung and
Kaylin Adza to take
second in the 400 Free Relay and third in both the 200 Medley and
200 Free Relay. Yeung had a solid meet taking 3rd in both
the 100 & 200 Individual Medley. Adza turned out three personal best
swims finishing 8th in both the 500 Free & 50 Fly.
Distance swimmer, Stephanie
White finished with three personal bests: a 4th in
the 1650, a 5th in the 500 and a 6th in the
200 Free. The women’s team had multiple swimmers who were first time
qualifiers for the consolation finals:
Anna Hill took 9th
in 200 IM, 11th in 1650 and 12th in 100 Fly;
finished 14th in 100 Breast, 15th in the 1650
and 11th in the 50 Breast;
Christina Ramirez was 14th
in 200 IM and 16th in 1650;
Amanda Murillo finished
13th in 200 IM & 14th in 100 Back.
The men’s team was lead by
Danny Dizon who took first in the 50 Free, second in the 100 Free
and fifth in the 200 Free. Danny’s 50 Free time was the second
fastest in school history.
Joel Christenson had a strong showing finishing 8th
in both the 1650 Free & 200 Free and 9th in the 500 Free.
Sophomore, Robbie Sweetman, took 6th in 200 Breast, 7th
in 100 Breast and 9th in 200 IM.
Eric Harvey had three personal best swims finishing 7th
in 400 IM, 13th in 200 Fly and 15th in 100
Fly. Cole Jower was 7th
in the 200 Back and 12th in the 100 Back.
Moses Kodur took on the “ironman list” and finished 11th
in the 400 IM, 13th in the mile and 19th in
the 500 Free. Da Xi was
13th in 200 Breast and 14th in the 400 IM.
Sal Angiano posted all
personal best swims and was 9th in the 100 fly and 10th
in the 200 Fly. Thomas Volz
also finished the season with all personal best swims in the 100 &
200 Breast and the mile.
Isaac Onofrei was 15th in the 200 Back & 16th
in 100 Back. Gavril Torrijos
also had life-time best swims in the 100 & 200 Free and the 200

hosted Cabrillo College and Foothill College in their final
conference double dual meet of the season. Once again the ladies
were victorious on both accounts beating Cabrillo (126-108)) and
Foothill (122-105). The mens team lost to Cabrillo in a close one
(118-111) and to Foothill (131-88). The women won all five of the
individual freestyle events; Stephanie White took the mile; Josanne
van der Wilk the 200 & 500; and Nicole Houghtelling the 50 & 100.
Priscilla Yeung finished second in the 200 IM and third in the 100
Backstroke. Chabot divers, Emily Frone and Stephanie Sizemore,
finished second and third, respectively, on both boards. The team of
Yeung, van der Wilk, Adza & Houghtelling won the final race of the
meet- the 400 Freestyle Relay.
On the mens side, Danny Dizon had
a double win in the 50 & 100 Freestyle while Robbie Sweetman grabbed
first in the 200 Breast. Joel Christenson finished second in both
the 200 & 500 Free. Corin Ennis took third in his two individual
races (1650 Free & 200 Breast). Cole Jower finished third in the 200
Backstroke and fourth in the 200 I.M. In the 400 Freestyle Relay,
Dizon, Ennis, Jower and Christenson finished second.

traveled across the bridge to take on College of San Mateo and De
Anza College. And despite gale force winds, torrential rains and
even a tornado warning, the Gladiators had a successful afternoon of
swimming. The womens team defeated both colleges and the mens team
split- losing to De Anza but beating San Mateo. The women started
the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay (Anna Hill, Gabrielle
Pargett, Kaylin Adza & Stephanie White). White finished second in
both the 1000 and 500 freestyles. Josanne van der Wilk took first in
all three of her events: the 100, 200 & 500 freestyles. Nicole
Houghtelling finished second in her three races: the 50 Free, 100
Back & 100 Fly. Divers, Emily Frone and Stephanie Sizemore competed
against (4) De Anza divers and finished in the middle of the pack.
For the men, Danny Dizon claimed first in the 400 I.M. and the 1000
Free. Cole Jower won the 200 Backstroke. There were many swimmers
who posted personal best times: Eric Harvey (200 Free); Sal Anguiano
(100 Free); Da Xi (1000 Free); Isaac Onofrei (200 & 500 Free);
Gabrielle Pargett (200 I.M.); Susana Izaguierres (50 Free);
Christina Ramirez (100 Back) and Joel Christenson (400 I.M.).

Gladiators participated in a Quad Meet Thursday with Las Positas
College, Ohlone College and American River
College. When scored as a
series of double-duals, the Chabot women came out on top every time:
against Las Positas (72-33); Ohlone (83-16) and American River
(63-48). Leading the way was Nicole Houghtelling and Josanne van der
Wilk who finished first in both their individual events; 50 Free &
100 Fly for Nicole and the 200 & 500 Free for Josanne. They were
joined by Kaylin Adza and Priscilla Yeung and took first in the 200
Freestyle Relay in a time of 1:48.35. In addition, Adza finished
third in both the 200 & 500 Free while Yeung finished third in both
the 100 Back and 200 I.M. Distance swimmer, Stephanie White took
second in the 500 and fourth in both the mile and 100 Fly. Chabot
divers, Emily Frone and Stephanie Sizemore went one-two on both
boards; Emily taking the one-meter and Stephanie taking the

Robbie Sweetman grabbed fourth in both the 200 Backstroke and 200
Gladiators had a successful day of swimming as they traveled to
for the annual Mariner Invitational. The womens team finished
second while the mens team finished in the middle of the pack at
fourth. Josanne van der Wilk finished first in both the 500 Free
(5:36.66) and the 400 I.M. (5:09.68). Nicole Houghtelling took 4th
in the 50 Fly (29.24) and 5th in 50 Free (26.50). In the
50 breaststroke, Gabrielle Pargett was 5th (39.07).
Priscilla Yeung had a good day finishing 4th in 100 I.M.
(1:09.08) and 6th in 50 Back (34.15). Stephanie White
also turned out several solid swims coming in 6th in 200
Free (2:17.85) and 4th in 500 Free (6:09.37). Chabot
swimmers also racked up multiple personal best swims: Kaylin Adza
(500 Free); Corrine Schlatcher (50 & 200 Free); Anna Hill (100 Free
& 100 I.M.) and Christina Ramirez (100 I.M. & 100 Free). In diving,
Stephanie Sizemore & Emily Frone were unopposed in the 1-meter and
3-meter diving events.
On the mens side, Danny Dizon took 2nd
in the 50 Free (22.42) and 5th in both the 100 Free
(50.06) and the 200 Free (1:50.31). Robbie Sweetman finished 3rd
in 100 Back (1:04.92) and 7th in 100 Breast (1:07.86).
Joel Christenson was 4th in the 500 Free (5:22.20). Corin
Ennis finished 8th in 100 Breast (1:07.91). The mens
team also saw multiple life-time best swims: Sal Anguiano (100 Fly);
Moses Kodur (100 Free & 100 Breast); Da Xi (100 Breast & 500 Free);
Thomas Volz (100 Breast & 200 I.M.); Isaac Onofrei (500 Free & 100
Free) and Eric Harvey (100 Breast & 100 Fly).

In their first conference meet of the 2011 season, the Gladiator women’s team was victorious over both West Valley (136-76) and City College of San Francisco (120-107). Chabot grabbed first and/or second place in 10 out of 13 events. In the distance events, Josanne van der Wilk and Stephanie White went one, two, respectfully in both the 1650 and the 500 freestyles. In the sprints, Nicole Houghtelling finished first in both the 50 and 100 freestyles. Freshman, Priscilla Yeung, was first in the 200 Individual Medley and second in the 100 Backstroke. In the 100 butterfly, sophomore, Kaylin Adza, took second place. Chabot divers, Stephanie Sizemore & Emily Frone went one, two on the 1-meter and the 3-meter boards. In the final event of the meet, the 200 Freestyle Relay, Houghtelling, Adza, Yeung and van der Wilk dominated; taking first place by almost half a pool length!
The men’s team opened with a close match-up against West Valley losing by just 3 points (92-89). Sophomore Joel Christenson led the way with a double win in the 1650 and 500 freestyles. Freshman standouts, Danny Dizon and Sal Anguiano, made strong showings. Dizon took second in both the 200 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke; while Anguiano finished second in the both the 50 and 500 Freestyles. In the 200 Breaststroke, Chabot claimed first with Corin Ennis and second with Robbie Sweetman. Just like the women, the men’s team ended the meet with a dominating win in the 400 Freestyle Relay (Christenson, Dizon, Anguiano & Ennis).
