2016

Amber Amber Marsden, 2008:

Amber accomplished many honors in her one year at Chabot. 2008 ITA All-American in both Singles & Doubles.  2007 ITA Northern CA Regional Doubles Champion, which lead to Amber representing Chabot College at the Small College Nationals in Montgomery, Alabama. 2008 Semi Finals of CA State Singles Championship. 2008 Northern CA Doubles Champion. 2008 Coast Conference Doubles Champion. Played #1 Singles & Doubles, which helped lead Chabot Woman�s Team to CA State Team Championship match.

Amber went on to graduate from UC Berkeley, with a B.A. in Sociology, and then earned a M.S. in Counseling from Cal State Long Beach.

Megan Megan Kummer, 2008 & 2007:

.

Megan accomplished many honors in her 2 years at Chabot. 2007 ITA All-American in both Singles & Doubles. 2007 Coast Conference Singles & Doubles Champion. 2007 ITA Northern CA Regional Doubles Champion, which lead to Megan representing Chabot College at the Small College Nationals in Montgomery, Alabama. 2008 ITA All-American Doubles. 2008 Northern CA Doubles Champion. 2008 Coast Conference Doubles Champion. Helped lead Chabot Woman�s Team to CA State Team Championship match.

Megan went on to San Jose St., where she earned a tennis scholarship and competed for the next 2 years. Megan earned her B.A. in History, then her M.A in Museum Studies & M.B.A at JFKU.

Tiffany Tiffany Villanueva, 2007 & 2006:

Tiffany came to Chabot from Hawaii. In her first year at Chabot, she earned 2006 ITA All-American status in Singles and 2006 ITA Rookie of the Year Award. The next year, Tiffany earned one of the most prestigious awards given out in tennis, 2007 ITA CA JC Female Player of the Year Award! Tiffany was also 2007 ITA All-American in both Singles & Doubles. Also this year, she captured the 2007 Coast Conference Doubles Championship, and was the finalist for the 2007 Coast Conference Singles Championship.

Tiffany earned a scholarship to Concordia University, where she competed on the tennis team for the next 2 years, and earned her B.A. degree in Psychology.

Jim Jim Swansiger, 1996 & 1995:

Jim led the resurgence of Chabot Men�s Tennis, leading to a Coast Conference Team Championship in 1996, winning the deciding match vs. Foothill to secure the team championship ! In 1995 Jim was part of the #1 Doubles team, Ojai Doubles quarterfinals  , and finished 7th in the CA JC Final State Doubles Rankings. Jim became an assistant coach at Chabot starting in 1997, ending in 2004. Jim was  invaluable as a  coach to both men�s & woman�s programs. He helped our programs achieve 2 State Champs, 2 Ojai Champs, and a 2004 Woman�s State Team Finalist !

In 2002 Jim became the Head Tennis Pro at Ruby Hills CC. In 2011 Jim became the Director of Tennis at Castlewood CC. Jim married a former Chabot tennis player, Charlene Dorkin [The Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship Award winner as well as a conference singles champ at Chabot].




Granada HS                                             University: Cal State Hayward

Erika Watkins, 1992 & 1991:

Erika is one of the most decorated players in Chabot Woman�s tennis history! In 1991 Erica earned ITA All-American status in both Singles & Doubles.   Winning the Northern CA Singles & Doubles Championship, while also winning the Golden Gate Conference Singles & Doubles Titles. Again, in 1992 Erika won the Singles & Doubles Golden Gate Conference Championship and was Northern CA Finalist in both Singles & Doubles.

These honors helped Erica earn a scholarship to Lincoln University, where she competed on their tennis team. In 1993 she was the conference singles & doubles champion. In 1994, she was the conference finalist in singles & doubles.

2010

Dmitry Dzyuba, 2003 & 2002:

Dmitry is the only player in Chabot College history, men or women, to win the CA State Singles Championship, in 2003. In 2003 he was The ITA Player of the Year, and finished 1st in the Final CA State Rankings in Singles. He was ITA All-American in Singles in both 2003 & 2002.
Dmitry transferred to San Francisco State after Chabot.  He currently is an Assistant Coach at Chabot College, and is working on starting up a Junior Tennis Academy at Chabot College.

Justine Liberato, 2004 & 2003:

Justine is one of the most decorated players in Chabot College history. She won the State Doubles Championship in 2003, and also won the prestigious Ojai Doubles Championship in 2004. She was ITA All-American in 2004 in both Singles & Doubles, and in 2003, ITA All-American in Doubles. In 2004 she won the ITA Player of the Year Award.
Justine transferred to UC Berkeley, and received her B.S. degree. She is currently working towards a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at Midwestern University in Glendale, AZ.

El Camino HS                                               University: UC Berkeley


Kristin Kummer, 2003:

Kristin competed at Chabot College for 1 year. She then transferred to St. Mary's College on tennis scholarship, to finish her college career. Kristin won the State Doubles Championship in 2003. In Singles, she made it to the semis of the State Tourney, and finished with a #3 Final Ranking in Singles in CA JC. She was ITA All-American in both Singles & Doubles in 2003.

2006

Nylah Benson, 1994 & 1993:

Nylah was State Doubles Champion in 1994, with partner Amy Petersen. She was a finalist in the 1994 Ojai Doubles Championship. In 1994 Nylah was Conference Singles Champion. She earned ITA All-American in Doubles Award in 1994.
Nylah then transferred to Cal State Bakersfield.

Jocie Hendricks, 1995:

Jocie was State Doubles Champion in 1995 with partner, Amy Petersen. Jocie was Doubles runner up at the 1995 Ojai Doubles Championship. Jocie won Conference & Northern CA Doubles Titles as well. In 1995 she earned ITA All-American in Doubles. Jocie then transferred to Cal State Northridge.

2004

Rob Levin, 1995 & 1990:

In 1990 Rob was the number one player for Chabot, and he led the team in singles victories that year. Rob came back to Chabot 5 years later, to complete his 2nd year. He again was the best player on the team, and led his team to a 2nd place finish in the Coast Conference. Rob finished the year at the State Tourney, where he earned a CA Final State Ranking in Singles of 7th, and also earned an ITA All-American Award for Singles.
Rob then received a tennis scholarship to Westmont College.

Amy Petersen, 1995 & 1994:

Amy is one of the most decorated tennis players that has ever represented Chabot College. She won the State Doubles Championship in both years she competed here at Chabot College, 1995 & 1994. She was Northern CA Doubles Champion in both 1994 & 1995. She also was the finalist in the prestigious Ojai Doubles Championship in 1994 & 1995.
At CSU Northridge, she won both the conference singles & doubles titles, while earning the conference MVP Award in 1996.

2002

Jenny Johnston, 1990 & 1989:

Jenny helped both teams she played on reach the CA State Team Final, both teams won Northern CA Team Championships.  Jenny also won both the Northern CA Singles & Doubles Championship in 1990, as well as the Golden Gate Singles & Doubles Championship in 1990. Also that year Jenny won The Ojai Singles Championship. Jenny earned 1990 ITA All-American status in both Singles & Doubles. Jenny was the the 1st female in Chabot history to win the Chabot Female Athlete of the Year award.
Jenny earned a scholarship to compete at the University of Hawaii.

GLORIA BALIL Gloria Balil, 1990 & 1989:

Gloria helped both teams she played on reach the CA State Team Final, both teams won Northern CA Team Championships.  Gloria earned 1990 ITA Singles award.
Gloria also earned a scholarship to the University of Houston.

Dan Masengill, 1974 & 1973:

Dan came to Chabot College from Canyon HS. He is one of the best singles players that Chabot has had to date. In 1974 Dan won the Golden Gate Singles Championship, and was voted the team MVP.
Dan completed his education at Cal State Hayward, and later coached wrestling at Castro Valley HS.

Tony Madrid 1970 & 1969:

Tony earned All-Conference both years he played at Chabot College. He was Chabot's MVP in 1969.
Tony completed his eligibility and education at Cal State Hayward.

Jill Goularte, 1981 & 1980:

Jill was Golden Gate Conference Singles & Doubles Finalist in 1980. In 1981,  the team won its 1st conference championship. In 1981 Jill was a Finalist in both Singles & Doubles in the the Conference Tourney.

Arroyo  HS                                                 University:

Georgie Chivington, 1979-1998, Woman's Head Tennis Coach :

Georgie was a multi-talented athlete, and also excelled in tennis. She was a ranked tennis age group player in Northern CA . Georgie began her coaching career in 1979 at Chabot, after the woman's tennis program was started 2 years prior, and led by Sophie Rheinheimer.
In Georgie's 3rd year, her team won her 1st Team Golden Gate Conference and Team Northern CA Championship in 1981. During her tenure as woman's tennis coach at Chabot, she established one of the most successful tennis programs in CA JC. In her 20 years of coaching at Chabot, her teams won many conference championships and Northern CA Championships, and two CA JC Tourney Co-Championships.
Georgie and her husband Tom, are retired and residing in Woodside, CA.

2000

  Bill Lewan, 1971 & 1970:

Bill earned All-Conference and All-Northern CA honors while playing 2 years at Chabot College. He led the Gladiators to their 1st conference & Northern CA Team Championships in 1971, and earning Chabot's MVP Award. Bill was also Northern CA Doubles Champion in 1971.
He played 1 year of tennis at Long Beach State, and then transferred To Sonoma State for his final year of tennis. He graduated with a degree in Sociology.

Marilyn Morrell, 1981 & 1980:

In 1981 Marilyn was Conference & Northern CA Singles Champion, and a semi-finalist in the State Tourney. In 1981 the team was the state finalists. Marilyn was also Conference Doubles Champion, and Northern CA Doubles finalist.
She attended Texas Christian Univ. on scholarship, and then transferred and finished up at San Jose State.
