Chabot basketball preview, Jan 22

After averaging 86 points over three consecutive wins, the Chabot women's team will look to keep the good times rolling on the road this week.
The Gladiators (16-4, 4-1 Coast-North), ranked No. 13 in the state and seventh in the North Region, will travel to College of San Mateo (6-14, 2-3) on Wednesday before visiting San Jose (13-9, 4-2) on Friday, in a rematch between teams that waged a fierce battle on Jan. 3 when the Gladiators rallied for a 77-69 win.
If Chabot can get by CSM and San Jose, it would set up a massive showdown against CCSF (18-3, 5-0) on Jan. 31 in San Francisco, in which the Gladiators can move into a tie for first place with a win.
In action last week, the Gladiators scored 178 points combined in decisive wins over winless Ohlone, 86-32, and Las Positas, 92-63. Olivia Vezaldenos had 24 points and seven assists against Las Positas, and Sierra Hillman came off the bench for 21 points. Kim Masulit and Mia Finnie each had 11 points, and Jessika Davis pulled down eight boards.

Chabot made some positive strides last week with a confidence-boosting 82-70 win over East Bay-rival Ohlone on Jan. 17, the Gladiators' first conference win.
Stephen Northington led the way with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds and Isaiah Ali added 20 points. Elliot Harris had 13 points and eight assists.
On Friday, Chabot gave a credible effort against host Las Positas in a 102-83 defeat. Northington had another strong game with 20 points and seven rebounds and Jorden Gilmete stepped up with 18 points. Devin Smith chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds.
This week, Chabot will have tough road games at Canada and Foothill on Wednesday and Friday. The Gladiators compete in one of the state's top conferences.
