Message from President Cooks Celebrating Earth Day and Earth Week

April 22, 2024 – CELEBRATING EARTH DAY

As the world celebrates Earth Day today, Chabot celebrated Earth Week last week with a full offering of sessions and events. The Earth Week Organizing Group hosted the 8th Earth Week Conference for and with students, faculty, classified professionals, administrators, and the community.

Chabot College is fortunate to be able to create an environment in advocacy for the environment. Walking on to a college campus and having an outdoor nature photography exhibit on display as you rush to a class, or participating in planting a tree that will live and grow along with the Chabot mission of serving students, is putting much of our academic teachings to practice.

Promoting faculty and classified professional led collectives such as the Earth Week Organizing Group and Chabot’s Climate Action Group (CCAW); learning communities such as Change it Now (CIN) who focus on education and social justice on campus; and student clubs like Revolutionaries Advocating for Greener Ecosystems (RAGE) whose mission is to drive our community towards healthier, sustainable practices through community service and student-led initiatives demonstrates Chabot’s commitment to environmental issues and causes.

Chabot College also strives to sustainable foundations as we move forward with the construction of buildings that are Silver, Gold or Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified. LEED is the world’s most widely used green building rating system.

I am truly inspired and continue to be motivated by the thoughtful and engaging work of our colleagues and community. As our Earth Week theme “It Starts with Us” launched us last week, “It Persists with Us” to protect and serve our one home for our one people.

Land Acknowledgment: We acknowledge the land and the peoples to whom this land belongs. This is Ohlone land and they are still here. We stand in solidarity with all indigenous people and their right to self-determination and justice. We commit to working toward the healing of the generational trauma, theft, and dispossession native peoples’ have faced and continue to face.

President's Welcome


Welcome to Chabot College! For over 60 years, Chabot has helped students meet their academic, social, and employment dreams, goals and aspirations. 

I am honored to start my presidency as Chabot’s 10th College President. I am humbled to lead our prestigious institution and excited about the tremendous potential in our programs and services as we aspire to be the best community college in the state. 

Chabot College will start this academic year with a number of established and exciting new programs and resources such as our outstanding HSI STEM grant that promotes a STEM Summer Bridge program, offers embedded tutoring, work-based learning, and comprehensive student services, and encourages completion/transfer to STEM majors at 4-year universities. We are also developing a basic needs student success center, referred to as THE HUB, which will house our food pantry, student direct aid, community resources, CAL Fresh Food assistance, and school supplies. Moreover, our academic offerings have expanded by increasing the number of online classes, non-credit, and dual enrollment offerings.  

We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and social justice as we provide an encouraging, inspiring, safe, and nurturing learning environment. Chabot College is intentional in our culture of care for keeping students first.  Our Classified Professionals, Faculty, and Administrators are all here to serve you and your educational journey.  We look forward to our time together and opening up your possibilities for a fantastic college experience!
