Where
To check out a book, bring it to the RIGHT side of the Main Desk. You will need a valid Chabot identification card to check out books.  To check out a video, go upstairs to the right side of the Mezzanine.  The checkout desk is to the left of the Audio-Visual Center.

How Long
The loan period varies depending on the item. Books in the Stacks are loaned for up to two weeks; periodicals and audio-visual materials for seven days.

Return or Renew
The RIGHT side of the Main Desk is also the place to renew or return books. You can also renew books by going into My Account -- we'll show you how to access that feature later in this module.

Place Hold
If the book you want is checked out, you can ensure that you will be next in line to get it. You can place a hold online by clicking on the Place Hold link in the catalog entry for the item.  You can also place a hold if you find a book from Las Positas and want to pick it up at Chabot, if you can wait until the following Tuesday or Thursday afternoon after 4 p.m.  Otherwise, your valid Chabot identification card will work at Las Positas Library if you want to go there to check it out.
