Tutor Training Requirements
Interested in working as a tutor?
Chabot students who are hired to work as tutors in the Learning Connection program will need to complete the training requirements listed below.
First Semester
During your first semester working as a tutor, you will need to complete the following trainings:
- New Tutor Program Orientation & Equity Training
- required for ALL new tutors (peer tutors, embedded tutors, Comm Lab lead tutors)
- paid training; typically held on a Saturday during the first or second week of the semester
- additional paid asynchronous activities completed online through the Learning Connection Canvas site
- Tutor training workshops
- required for ALL new peer and embedded tutors
- paid training
- workshops are designed to help new tutors acquire specific skills and techniques for tutoring and leading study groups
- tutors will be able to choose from several options for workshops, offered in-person and synchronous online and must complete the specified number of workshops by the end of the semester
- tutoring is interpersonal, so you will be expected to participate and interact with other tutors as part of the workshops.
- some workshops will be open to all tutors and others will be for specific subsets of tutors. For example, there may be workshops for embedded tutors, workshops for Math peer tutors, workshops for WRAC Center peer tutors, etc.
Second Semester
During your second semester working as a peer tutor, you will need to complete the following trainings:
- Tutor training workshops
- required for ALL second-semester peer and embedded tutors
- paid training
- workshops are designed to help tutors continue to develop and refine their skills and techniques for tutoring and leading study groups
- tutors will be able to choose from several options for workshops, offered in-person and synchronous online and must complete the specified number of workshops by the end of the semester
- tutoring is interpersonal, so you will be expected to participate and interact with other tutors as part of the workshops.
Every Semester
Every semester, all tutors are required to complete the asynchronous activities completed online through the Learning Connection Canvas site so that they are informed of any changes as well as being provided an opportunity to review program processes. Completion of training activities is paid as described in the Canvas site.
