What's Your Chabot Story?

After graduating from high school in 2017, I started attending Chabot in fall 2017 as a way to figure out what I wanted to do with my life and take lower-division classes at a cheaper cost than if I were to take these same classes at a four-year university.

How did Chabot influence your life and career?

Attending Chabot influenced my life and career because I initially started coming to this school as a biology major since at the time, I thought about being a veterinarian. However, in spring 2018, two of the classes that I took at the beginning of that semester were general psychology and biology. During that time, I struggled to pass biology and I took general psychology with a teacher who inspired me to become interested in psychology and I wanted to learn more about the subject. As a result, I dropped biology and switched my major to psychology in the middle of the semester. For over a year, I didn't know what exactly I wanted to do with psychology up until at the end of summer 2019, I got a job working with children. A couple months into working at an after-school program and attending my last year at Chabot during the 2019-2020 school year, I decided I wanted to become a high school counselor because I felt like I could relate to the kids and hoped to become a positive role model to the next generation. I couldn't have chosen a better decision to attend Chabot College as a way to figure out what to do with my life and I hope that my story inspires those who plan to transfer.

Why should anyone transfer?

I think people should transfer because when you decide to start your college education at a community college, you get to finish your first few years taking lower-division classes at a lower cost at a community college than if you took lower-division classes at a four-year university.

Shout Outs and/or Words of Wisdom?

I wanted to give a shoutout to my counselor, Felicia Fierro, from the DSRC for helping me plan out my student educational plan because even if I didn't take the exact classes that we put onto my student educational plan, she still took time to help me know what classes I needed to take in order to fulfill my requirements so that I can transfer.
Another shoutout to one of my psychology professors, Felicia Perez, for being one of the most inspiring teachers that I had and helped me realize my potential when I had her for psychology 1 in spring 2018.
