Chabot women's basketball story from loss to CCSF

The young Chabot women's basketball team put up a valiant effort at home against perennial NorCal powerhouse City College of San Francisco last week.
The Gladiators, a team with all freshmen, erased an 11-point deficit, but the Rams had runs of 10-0 and 7-0 to pull away in the second half for a 73-64 win over Chabot Saturday night.
"It was a good game and we played really hard out there," Chabot coach Mark Anger said. "We fell behind early but came back and had chances to win the game, but we were unable to convert."
Mia Finnie recorded a double-double for the Gladiators, with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Olivia Vezaldenos had a trio of 3-pointers and 17 points.
After Chabot (13-4, 1-1 Coast Conference-North) trailed 42-36 at halftime, the Gladiators went on a run for their first lead.
Finnie scored inside before Masulit hit a jumper and a long 3 to give the Gladiators a 43-42 lead barely a minute into the third period.
San Francisco (14-3, 1-0) responded with a 10-0 run to take a 52-43 advantage with 3:45 left in the quarter.
Vezaldenos hit back-to-back treys including an off-balance shot at the buzzer to pull Chabot within three at 56-53 heading to the fourth.
"That was a big play and got us back into it and we were right there with them," Anger added.
A Vezaldenos jumper pulled the Gladiators within a point at 58-57 a minute in, but the Rams responded with a 12-2 run.
Early in the game it looked like San Francisco would have a walk-thru as the Rams jumped out to an 11-0 lead, but Chabot answered by with a 13-3.
The Rams (14-3, 1-0) had a huge advantage at the free throw line, converting 21 of 33 attempts while the Gladiators were just 7 for 18 from the charity stripe.
Zaikaya Willis powered the Rams with 17 points and 19 rebounds, and Caprice Taylor had a team-high 19 points.
