English & ESL
Department:
English as a Second Language (ESL)

Hello! I've been teaching English at Chabot College since 2016 and have loved every second of it ever since. In 2025, I started teaching ESL after taking a few years off. Now, I teach both English and ESL and it is wonderful.
As a Chabot alum, I know what it's like to be in your shoes. I was also a working student with a lot on my plate, so I understand the position of my students and do my best to cater to that.
I am a Bay Area native and currently live in Castro Valley with my husband, who is also a Chabot alum (and is in Chabot's Hall of Fame for football! :)), our son, and our German Shepherd Husky. I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in English, with an emphasis on TESOL.

Erika Lachenmeier
Instructor
Department:
English as a Second Language (ESL)

Erika Lachenmeier joined Chabot College as a full-time faculty member in 2020 after thirteen years of teaching ESL in higher education at Laney College, Portland Community College, and Portland State University. She is originally from Portland, Oregon and earned her M.A. in TESOL from Portland State University in 2006. She loves working with adult language learners and is constantly inspired by their courage and perseverance. When Erika is not teaching English, she is probably dancing. She dances Salsa with Bay Area dance company Salsamania.
