Samantha Rajaram
Instructor
I grew up in Gillette, WY and moved to the Bay Area for middle school and high school (CVHS). I have a B.A. in English from UCLA, an M.A. in English from the University of Pennsylvania, and a law degree from UC Hastings. I previously worked as a lawyer, where I represented school districts, farm workers, public benefits recipients, and domestic violence survivors. I love learning from my students and witnessing their courage and transformation through the act of reading and writing. I teach mostly writers of color and LGBTQ+ writers, with a focus on Asian-American literature. I'm thrilled to be an API Movement instructor. My short fiction and essays have been published in India Currents, WIRO, and Catamaran, and my debut novel The Company Daughters was a Goldie award winner and Bi Book Award finalist. I also mentor other writers through the Pitch Wars program. For fun, I love to practice yoga, play guitar, and hike around with my three teenagers.
