Clara Veronica Valdano-Lopez

Dr. Verónica Valdano is an Ecuadorian scholar who immigrated to the United States in 2000. She holds a PhD in Spanish and Latin American Literatures and Cultures from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with a specialization in colonial discourse analysis.
She has over 25 years of experience teaching Spanish language, Spanish/Latin American literature, and culture, in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
She has been a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion and has hosted and sponsored Hispanic Heritage Month events and Spanish and Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) clubs. Before joining Chabot College, Dr. Valdano taught for 7 years at Stanford University OHS and Summer at Stanford programs.
In 2025, she published "Quito colonial: Relaciones de poder y conocimiento," which received Ecuador’s national "Premio Isabel Tobar Guarderas" for the best social sciences book of the year.
She also enjoys walking her dog, drawing, reading, exercising, and researching.
