Joan McQuade

Dr. McQuade is a Humanities and English college professor, writer, and educator with more than 20 years of college teaching experience. She currently teaches at Chabot and Cañada Community Colleges and has also taught Comparative Literature at UC Berkeley as a University Lecturer. She earned her Ph.D. from the Sorbonne, conducted postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley, and has been a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University. A published author and former UC Berkeley admissions essay reader, she is deeply committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging (DEIAB), with a particular focus on accessibility, student equity, and success. She has completed extensive professional development in accessible and inclusive course design, online teaching, educational technology, and equity-centered pedagogy. She is also interested in the thoughtful use of artificial intelligence in higher education to support accessibility, learning, creativity, research, and critical thinking.
