STEM 1 - Introduction to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics    ( 2.00 - Units )
This course explores the interdependence of scientific fields through project based activities, including an introduction to basic scientific concepts taken from biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics, and physics. Emphasis on the role of science as a human endeavor and the power of scientific inquiry, as well as educational pathways and careers in STEM fields.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)
  1. Discuss, write, or present about the duties, personality traits and values of a practicing scientist with in STEM disciplines
  2. Apply common MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint to analyze scientific data
  3. Define and discuss ethics and global impact of STEM fields on society

STEM 95 - STEM Work Experience    ( 1.00 - Units )
This work-based learning course offers students supervised field experience in an industry, organization, agency, or institution within the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics fields. Students will prepare for job-specific technical skills that will lead to short-term vocational programs with high employment potential. Supervised employment of students extending classroom-based occupational learning at an on-the-job learning station relating to the students? educational or occupational goals, including paid or volunteer work experience or an internship. Within the academic term, students must complete 54 hours of paid or non-paid work for 1.00 unit. Students can earn a maximum of 14 units of Work Experience.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)
  1. demonstrate enhanced employment skills through the establishment and achievement of performance goals;
  2. identify and apply job skills, aptitudes, and attributes that will enable the students to be successful in the workplace as evidenced by meeting the students learning outcomes;
  3. demonstrate the ability to create, edit, and publish a current resume that includes the work-based learning experience.
