RISE
The RISE learning community is creating the prison-to-school pipeline in Alameda County and seeks to erode the stigma associated with those impacted by the criminal justice system, create safer communities, and fight mass incarceration by providing a second chance to our RISE scholars. Whether someone has ever been to juvenile hall, jail, or prison, or impacted by an immediate family member who has been incarcerated, the RISE Program is here for you. RISE is creating a pseudo-family of FISI students, supporting one another from incarceration to graduation and beyond. The program does this through peer-to-peer support, weekly check-in meetings and calls, designated RISE counselors, purchasing all books and supplies needed for classes, guest motivation speakers, and much more! Supporting the onramp of formerly incarcerated persons to higher education is a critical first step to successful reentry, instantly acclimating to a positive, welcoming environment which will encourage their growth while giving them the tools needed for gainful employment.
