Centro Legal - Rental Assistance

Are you behind on rent or utilities because of COVID-19? The Alameda County Housing Secure Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ACHS-ERAP) will help income-eligible households pay rent and utilities, both for past due and future payments. The federal Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 provides funding to support the program. Phase 1 of the program will launch on March 17, 2021. Phase 1 of the program will prioritize (1) tenant households making less than 30% of the area median income; (2) small rental property owners (5 units or less); and (3) tenants in subsidized affordable housing units. These priorities will be expanded in Phase 2.

Homeless Youth Handbook

Beginning in 2013, we worked with a team to create a much-needed and previously nonexistent legal resource to better serve homeless children in several states—the Homeless Youth Handbook. The handbook has become an invaluable resource for homeless youth, communities, and agencies across the country.

In the 50 years since MidPen was founded, we have developed over 100 communities and 8,500 homes for low-income families, seniors and special needs individuals throughout Northern California.

Public Housing Authorities

Alameda County

Berkeley

Estabilished in 1966, BHA provides rental assistance to a total of 1,939 low-income households units through the Section 8 and Moderate Rehabilitation Program. It is governed by a 7-member Housing Authority Board.

City of Alameda

The primary goal of the Housing Authority is to provide quality, affordable, and safe housing in the City of Alameda. We work with other units of government, non-profits and private landlords. We also partner with a variety of agencies to provide housing and support services to as many eligible individuals, families, seniors, and persons with disabilities as possible.

Contra Costa County

The Housing Authority of the County of Contra Costa provides rental subsidies and manages and develops affordable housing for low income families, seniors and persons with disabilities in Contra Costa County.

Livermore

The Housing Authority of the City of Livermore, also known as Livermore Housing Authority, is a local public agency providing safe, decent, and quality affordable housing for low-income families, seniors, and persons with disabilities in the City of Livermore.

Oakland

The Oakland Housing Authority (OHA) currently provides subsidized housing to nearly 16,500 families. The largest landlord in Oakland, OHA serves a diverse community in neighborhoods throughout the city. Our dedicated staff remains steadfast in its effort to gauge existing needs and provide meaningful opportunities for our families, in addition to expanding the availability of quality housing.

Richmond

The Richmond Housing Authority (RHA) provides decent affordable housing for low and very low-income residents of Richmond through our federally funded housing programs:

Pittsburg

The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburg provides rental subsidy to the maximum extent allowable. Funding is awarded by the Federal Government to subsidize low-income families with their rent. The Annual Contract Contribution awarded to the City determines the number of families the Housing Authority can assist.

Causa Justa

Provides free tenant clinics, counseling and case management for low- income residents of Oakland. Assist clients regarding repairs, rent increases,evictions, harassment or other problems with tenancy. Advising regarding fair housing and discrimination.

ECHO Housing

Provides rental assistance, housing assistance, tenant/landlord counseling, home seeking, home sharing, and mortgage and home purchase counseling.

A Friendly Manor

Site provides showers, laundry facilities, hot meals, etc. Transitional housing or shelter for the homeless.

A Diamond In The Ruff

Self-sufficiency and transitional housing assistance program for up to 18 months.

Adobe Services

Support services for low-income and homeless families and individuals. Provides emergency shelter, rental subsidies, transitional housing and permanent supportive housing. Case management services.

Aids Project Of The East Bay (APEB)

Helps HIV positive/AIDS individuals, and their families. Resources, affordable housing, and case management provided.

Alameda Point Collaborative

Largest provider of housing services in Alameda County. Housing services for homeless, and indigent.

Bay Area Crisis Nursery (Bacn)

Offers short term residential care for children and infants whose families are in crisis. Safe stable home like environment.

Berkely Food And Housing Project

Provides services for the homeless, and at risk of homelessness.

Building A Solid Foundation

Provides services to homeless, from therapy, housing, and case management.

Building Futures With Women And Children

Has multiple locations, for homeless, domestic violence, and other housing services.
